Lucille L. VonWald, 93, of Gettysburg, passed away, Thursday, February 14, 2008 at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg.

Funeral services were held at 2:00p.m., Saturday, February 16 at the Luce Funeral Home in Gettysburg with Pastor Susan O’Connell officiating. Burial was in the Gettysburg Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11:00a.m., Saturday at the funeral home.

Lucille L. Bever was born August 31, 1914 at Agar, South Dakota to Glen and Maude (Todd) Bever. She lost her mother during her childhood years. Lucille attended rural area schools and graduated from Agar High School as Salutatorian in 1932.

She lived most of her adult life in Agar except for a short time while she worked at the Sully County Courthouse prior to her marriage. She was married on August 3, 1936 to Merle VonWald. They lived in Onida for a short time before moving to Agar where Merle became a Standard Oil Agent. At that time, Lucille took the position as town clerk for the City of Agar. Lucille also kept busy doing Merle’s books and writing the Agar news for the Onida Watchman. Upon their retirement in 1980, they moved to Gettysburg. She entered the Oahe Manor on April 19, 2002.

Lucille was a member of the Agar United Methodist Church, Agar United Methodist Women and the Sully County Extension Club.

She is survived by her daughters: Shirley McClure of Agar and Sharon Heffernan of St. Louis, MO; seven grandchildren: Vicki (Kirk) Barr, Michelle Buol, Shana (Jim) Huls, Seth (DeAnn) McClure, and Jon, Mark and Stephanie Gross; ten great grandchildren: Gwen McClure, Nathaniel Smith, Avery Comp, Haley Huls, Brody, Madison and Emerson McClure, Oliva Kliess, and Jared and Shana Gross; one great-great granddaughter: Kaitlyn Martin; one granddaughter-in-law: Jeannie McClure; sister-in-law: Beryl Clark of Gettysburg and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband on June 19, 1993; one grandson: Steve McClure on April 20, 1993 and three brothers: Leonard, Neal and Nuell.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg was entrusted with her arrangements.
