Sharon Sheldon
July 22, 1941 ~ October 9, 2012
Sharon (Stroup) Sheldon, 71, formerly of Gettysburg, SD, Iowa City, IA and Cornucopia, WI, passed away in Tucson, AZ at Peppi’s House, an inpatient hospice unit at Tucson Medical Center on Tuesday, October 9, 2012.
A memorial service was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Masonic Lodge in Gettysburg, SD followed by a reception.
Sharon was born to the late Calvin (Ted) Stroup and Maxine (Stroup) Kolschefski on July 22nd, 1941 in Torrington, WY. Sharon is survived by Daniel, her husband of 54 years; her four children, Kim of Iowa City, IA; Kari (Randy) Rundle of Mount Vernon, IA; Kristi (Tom) of Harpers Ferry, IA; and Kip (Jerri) of Iowa City, IA. Sharon is also survived by her sister Pamela; half-brothers Calvin; David; and Dean Stroup. She is survived by five grandchildren, Joshua (Anna); Jeremy; Jessica; Sarah; and Hannah. Sharon had three great-grandchildren; Renae; Jack; and Wyatt.
Sharon had post high school education earning an Associates of Arts degree as well as becoming a Certified Public Secretary. She held memberships in the Gettysburg Jaycettes, Order of the Easter Star, and was a Girl Scout leader. She also instructed ballet and drill team students in the Gettysburg area.
Sharon enjoyed hunting pheasants with the Gross, Oberlitner, and Sheldon families with her beloved German short hair pointer, Kate. Additionally, she was an avid sailor, gardener, and cross country skier. She also enjoyed dancing, tai chi, sewing, quilting, and working in local volunteer community programs such as hospice and Chautauqua events.
Sharon married Daniel on June 28th, 1959 in Aberdeen, SD and shortly thereafter, moved back to Gettysburg, SD where they resided until 1970 when they moved to Iowa City, IA. Upon retirement, Dan and Sharon relocated to Cornucopia, WI on the shores of Lake Superior to continue her love of sailing.
She will be greatly missed by family and friends. A special thank you to Sharon’s brother-in-law, Bill and sister-in-law, Thea for their loving support.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests a memorial may be made in Sharon’s honor to Peppi’s Hospice House at 2715 N. Wyatt Drive, Tucson, AZ 85712.

Sharon will be missed since she was a fun person her whole life. My late Wife, Diana Loitwood, and Sharon were born 4 days apart and also were part of the Gettysburg High School class of 1959 too. I prayed for her while she was ill and now will pray for Dan and the family as they tgry to cope with this great loss.
