Marvel Marie Miesen was born October 12, 1923 to Edward and Katherine (Breene) Miesen in Lebanon, SD. She attended school in Lebanon and graduated in 1941. After graduating, she worked at the drug store in Gettysburg for several years before getting her teacher’s certificate from Aberdeen Teacher College. She taught for two years at Avon Springs School.

On May 21, 1949, Marvel married Wayne F. Worth in Gettysburg. They made their home in Potter County and, in 1965, purchased their farm 11 miles northwest of Gettysburg. Here she raised her family, helped on the farm and served on various committees.  In 1992, Wayne passed away. Marvie remained on the farm until 2001 when she built her new house and moved to town.

Throughout the years, Marvie could be found traveling the farmyard on her John Deere lawnmower, stopping to take lunch to the field and then back to her mower. After moving to town, she attended daily Mass and then headed to Gas and Goodies for coffee with friends. She also enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and rodeos, trips to the NFR in Las Vegas and gambling roadtrips with friends. Marvie was a member of the Medicine Rock Cattle Women, the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries, the Lincoln Appomattox Extension Club, Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Sacred Heart Altar Society.

Marvel’s life will be cherished by her two sons: Craig (Barb) Worth and Brian Worth all of Gettysburg; her three grandchildren: Ashley Worth of Pierre, Calley Worth of Gettysburg and Eric Worth of Gettysburg; one brother: Milo (Kay) Miesen of Orange City, IA; one sister: Maurine (Jack) Charron of Rapid City; one brother-in-law: Dean (Dottie) Worth of Woonsocket and one sister-in-law: Florence Miesen of Cannon Falls, MN.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband and one brother Merle.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Marvie’s arrangements.
