Mark Allen was born October 27, 1968 in Miller, SD to Richard LaFortune and Mary Genzler. He grew up in the Highmore and Lebanon areas where he attended school. He was known to his cousins as “Milk” as they could not pronounce Mark and later in life many called him “Gunk”.

He married LaNett Schlenker September 22, 1990 at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Highmore.

Mark worked as a farm hand for both Jay Anderson and Randy Baloun. However, he spent most of his life working construction; having worked for Ballew Construction and 20+ years for Westcott Construction; where he worked until his accident in 2007.

Mark loved to spend his free time with family. They enjoyed hunting, fishing and mud bogging together. He also enjoyed watching his western shows and listening to country music.

His life will be cherished by his wife, LaNett of Highmore; his children: Dustin (Kayla Rhoadarmer) of Blunt, and Amanda, Sasha and Jay all of Highmore; his mother, Mary Genzler of Highmore; one future grandchild;  his siblings: Jeff (Veronica) of Clinton, MN, Randy (Robyn Ditter) of Norfolk, NE, and Amy Genzler of Sturgis; father-in-law: Robert (Fyrne) Schlenker of Freeman; brother and sister-in-laws: Rance (Liz) Schlenker of Solon, IA, LeAnn (Craig) Novak of Pierre, Marlin (Sondee) of Sioux Falls, Lona (Matt) Christensen of Rapid City and Bryan (Jeni) Wiens of Albany, MN; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Richard LaFortune; mother-in-law, Marilyn Holder and cousin, Justin “Fuzz” Genzler.
