Charles O. Lowther, 81, of Miller, passed away Sunday, December 11, 2011 at the SunQuest Healthcare Center in Huron.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2011 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller with Pastor Brian Jones officiating. Burial followed at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Miller with military honors. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service.

Charles was born November 2, 1930 to Vere and Daisy (Williams) Lowther in Hand County, South Dakota.  He joined the United States Navy and served for 25 years before being honorably discharged.  He married Millie Jean Smith and they made their home in Charleston, South Carolina.  He later worked in the Armour Car Business for 10 years.  In 1979, Millie passed away.  Since 1994, he lived with his brother, Robert, in Redfield before moving to Miller.  Charlie enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

He is survived by his brothers: Jack (Marge) Lowther of Charleston, SC and Robert Lowther of Miller, SD; nieces: Charlene Huidsten of Woonsocket, SD and Darlene Gross of Mitchell, SD; brother-in-law, Bill Carlson of Redfield, SD; cousins: Lyle (Pam) Williams, Ronald Williams, Carol Williams and Nancy Williams.

Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Millie Jean; baby brother, Dale and sister, Vera Marie Carlson.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Charlie’s arrangements.

    Am sorry to hear another one of our 1949 Miller High School class members has passed on to eternal life. I knew Charlie as a fun loving guy, who really enjoyed his Navy career. We have 1949 class reunions, however, he has not been to the last two reunions because of health.
    I want to extend my deepest sympathy to the Lowther family. You will miss him.
