Margaret Simon, 95, of Murfreesboro, TN and formerly of Faulkton, passed away Saturday, January 7, 2012 at Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro, TN.

 

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 14, 2012 at St. Thomas Catholic Church with Fr. Joji Itukulapati officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a 7:00 p.m. wake service, Friday, January 13, 2012 at the church.

Margaret Alvina Tietz was born January 15, 1916 in Mansfield, SD to William and Margaret “Carrie” (Crawford) Tietz. At age 12 the family moved to Aberdeen. She graduated from Central High School and went on to Northern where she received her teacher certificate. Margaret taught country school for 28 years in Hoven, retiring in 1979.

While teaching in Hoven, Margaret met Anthony “Tony” Simon. They were married August 23, 1938 in Hoven.

Margaret was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and St. Thomas Altar Society. In her spare moments she enjoyed time with the family and teaching children. Margaret will be remembered for her beautiful smile, kind and generous heart, and beautiful sewing!

Margaret’s life will be forever cherished by her children: Elizabeth “Betty” (William) Rernleiter of Redfield, SD, JoAnn (Jim) Mischke of Watertown, SD, Marilyn (Mike) Lane of Centennial, CO and Steven (Melissa) Simon of Murfreesboro, TN; 13 grandchildren; 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Louise; brother, Leonard, and husband.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Margaret’s arrangements.

  1. I wish I could say that Ive known this family for years because I feel as if I have. Miss Margaret was such a sweet woman who had the most beautiful smile it would light up a room. I looked forward to seeing that pretty smile every week as the family came into my restaraunt. She will be forever Cherished by her loved ones and she will Never be forgotten. My Prayers are with all of her family through this tough time. Rest In Peace Margaret Simon!

    I’m sorry not to have been able to attend Margaret’s funeral. She will be remembered, along with all of you, in our parish prayers Sunday. I have so many memories of Taylor School and her being my third and fourth grade teacher as well as our families being good neighbors and friends. Blessings.
