Steven Schmidt
March 25, 1965 ~ January 12, 2012
Steve Schmidt, 46, of Lakewood, CO and formerly of Highmore, SD, passed away Thursday, January 12, 2012 at his home in Colorado.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, January 20, 2012 at the Church of Christ, Highmore with Max Kelley officiating. Burial followed at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery at Highmore. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.
Steven Paul was born March 25, 1965 to Sylvester and Mary (Dolliver) Schmidt in Miller, South Dakota. He graduated from Highmore High School in 1983, being honored as the Valedictorian. In 1987, he graduated with high honors from the School of Mines with a Mechanical Engineering degree. After graduation, he moved to Colorado and his most recent employment was with Industrial Cooling Systems in Lakewood, Colorado as an Engineer.
Skiing, the outdoors, computers and Colorado life were some of Steve’s favorite past times. He was known as a very thoughtful, kind, considerate, quiet and intelligent individual.
Grateful to have shared in his life is his mother, Mary Johnson of Highmore; siblings: David Schmidt of Highmore, Diane (Mike) Peterson of Watertown and Gary (Jackie) Schmidt of Wichita, KS; two nephews and one niece: Logan, Alex and Trinity Peterson; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceding him in death was his father, Sylvester, step-father, Rodney Johnson and a baby brother, Daniel.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Steve’s arrangements.

My deepest sympathies to my Aunt Mary and cousins. I will always remember the good times we had when we were kids all playing together at the Schmidt family gatherings. Steve was a fun, bright boy. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

You are all in my prayers that God comforts you and gives you peace during this time of loss. I remember Steve well as a kid in school; it is so hard to believe he is gone. However you now have another angel watching over you now.
My condolences go out to the family and friends of Steve. I have enjoyed working with Steve over the past years. He will be missed by his friends and colleagues.
