Monetta Thibodeau, 68, of Onida, passed away, Friday, February 03, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Pierre.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Onida with Fr. Jerry Kopel presiding. A scripture service was held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, February 6, 2012 at the church.
On November 10, 1943, Monetta L. Fear was born in Grand Rapids, Minnesota to William and Bessie (Darnell) Fear. She was raised and attended school in Grand Rapids, graduating from Grand Rapid High School in 1961.
Monetta was united in marriage December 11, 1971 to James Thibodeau in Grand Rapids, MN. They made their home together in the Grand Rapids and Cohasset, Minnesota areas. Together they raised their family along with many other. Monetta was a care giver her entire life, spending endless hours providing daycare, foster care and crisis care. The Thibodeau home was always a home away from home for their neighbors and children’s friends.
Monetta’s life will be cherished by all who knew her. She has touched many lives from newborns on up and will be remembered by many as the “Cookie Lady.”
She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Grand Rapids, MN, St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Cohasset, MN and St. Pius X in Onida, SD where she has given of her many talents to the Altar Society, parish council and religious education as a teacher. Monetta has also belonged to the Christina Women’s Club, Legion Auxiliary and Progress Extension Club and served as a boy/cub scout leader.
Monetta and James moved to Onida in September of 2007 where she remained until the time of her death.
Those left to treasure Monetta’s life are her husband, James of Onida; her children: Brandy of Grand Rapids, MN, Curtis (Tera) of Old Bridge, NJ, Patty Emery of Grand Rapids, MN, Jeffrey (Shelly) of Sartell, MN and Kevin (Nila) of Toronto, SD; her eleven grandchildren: Harli, Carl, Marie, Dakota, Shelby, Megan, Steven, Shaylee, Siehera, Kevin Jr., and Kyle; seven great grandchildren; three sisters: Lela Clements of Merlin, OR and Winona (Howard) Mattfield and Sherri Nelson of Grand Rapids, MN; and one brother, Duane (Linda) Fear of Bemidji, MN
Her parent’s preceded her in death.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Monetta’s arrangements.
