Evelyn Cermak

Evelyn Cermak, 85, of Highmore, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at the Good Samaritan Society of Miller.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 13, 2012 at the United Methodist Church, Highmore with Pastor Kori Lehrkamp officiating. Burial followed at the Highmore Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, February 12, 2012 with a 7:00 p.m., prayer service at Luze Funeral Home, Highmore.
Evelyn Veronica was born March 23, 1926 to John and Emma (Schubert) McTague in Hyde County. She attended and graduated from school in Highmore, SD. On February 9, 1945 she married Leland Cermak, to this union five sons were born. They farmed in Northern Hyde County and later moved to Arlington, SD to run a Gambles Store. They moved to Highmore, SD and owned and operated Cermak Trucking until Leland’s retirement in January of 1992.
She was an avid reader, enjoyed solving crossword puzzles; she will be remembered for her wonderful dill pickles, candied red pickles, and frosted sugar cookies. She canned all the bounty from Leland’s large garden. She never missed a Highmore High School basketball or football game her boys played in. Evelyn belonged to the Women’s Civic League.
Evelyn is survived by four sons: Bill (Deb) Cermak of Highmore, Dave (Mary) Cermak of Apple Valley, MN, Barry Cermak of Des Moines, IA and Jim (Amy) Cermak of Spearfish; 11 grandchildren: Quinton (Georgette) Cermak, Alex (Becky) Cermak, Adam Cermak, Nathan (Erin) Cermak, Jason (Ashley) Cermak, Tracy Cermak, Brett (Sam) Cermak, Kelsey Cermak, Michaela Cermak, Lauren Cermak and Tyler Cermak; and five great grandchildren: Chase, Kendall, Logan, Gunner and Braxton Cermak.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland; son, Todd; parents, John & Emma McTague; brothers, Ray McTague and Vincent McTague; and sister, Hilda Beuchler.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Special Olympics of South Dakota, 305 West 39th Street, Sioux Falls, SD 57105 in memory of Todd Cermak.
Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Evelyn’s arrangements.

So sorry for your loss. I enjoyed your Mom when she came to the store, bank or when she hosted senior parties. She was always very nice as was your Dad. It shows in how you live your lives today. May God Bless you at this dificult time.

Jim, So sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. I remember her as a wonderful lady as we played in your backyard when we were children. May the good Lord bless you and your family during this time of sorrow.
My sympathy to your family at this time. Evelyn was a special lady. I always enjoyed visiting with her, seems she always had something to talk about. Memories are a good thing to have and are best when shared.
