Penny Jo was born June 30, 1954 to Ralph and Opal (Hofer) Campbell. She lived on the farm with her parents and attended country school in Ohio Township the first few years of grade school. Later she attended special education classes in Miller.
Her Grandma Marie and Grandpa Joe Hofer also helped make her young life full of fun and challenging.
Her joys included reading which she learned to do at a young age, spending time with her precious dog, Hank, and being with her cousins. Penny Jo liked traveling with her parents on numerous vacations. She was a loving and loved member of the family and community.
Penny Jo moved to Miller with her parents in 1985. On October 30, 2002 she moved to Lincoln House, the Center of Independence in Huron. There she made new friends and enjoyed living for just over a year.
When the Blachford House opened in 2004, Penny Jo moved back to Miller. The last three years have been a special and meaningful time in Penny Jo’s life. She experienced a new independence. She loved going to the bowling alley each week, attending basketball games, and being able to attend many musical events. The staff at Blachford House worked diligently to keep Penny Jo healthy and happy.
Penny Jo truly loved living at Blachford House and always felt loved in return. In spite of being physically limited, she was never left out. A highlight for her came in July of 2007 when she, Casie Stevens, and Christie Palmer went to the Black Hills with Shawn Fernholz and Alisha Rearick.
Penny Jo had a sense of humor and often enjoyed a good giggle. She touched many lives with her unfailing love and quietly determined attitude toward life.
Her memory will be cherished by her mother Opal Campbell of Miller; two aunts, Roma Lee Rasmussen and Frieda Mortensen and nine cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father Ralph on July 19, 2003; grandparents; two aunts and several uncles.

At miller, there were many Campbell reunions growing up, and I fondly remember Penny Jo right there with the rest of us. Every person has something meaningful to offer and teach the world. May God’s love, care and sympathy be with you, Opal, and surround your family with peace.
Opal, I just loved going to church at PV Presbyterian where you would play the piano and I could always count on Ralph and Penny Jo being right there in that front pew with you.
Penny Jo was such a kind and loving person. I am so happy to hear that her later years were joyful as she brought so much joy to others. I always appreciated her humor and nature.
God Bless You, Opal. May peace and comfort surround you.
