Leona was united in marriage on August 29, 1934 to Cecil Traver in Pierre, SD. They lived in Hyde County and Potter County and in 1942 purchased a farm in Faulk County where they made their home and raised four sons. Cecil passed away in 1987. Leona continued to live on the farm until 2011. She had a stroke just after her 97th birthday, this required her to have increased care and she entered the Faulkton Healthcare Center in March where she remained until the time of her death.

In her spare time Leona enjoyed reading, gardening, fishing, sewing, cooking, and above all completing crossword puzzles. She also loved watching baseball games in Seneca, during the time her husband and sons played. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and served for many years as a 4-H Leader.
