Fern Van Den Berg, 95, of Highmore, died Saturday, October 27, 2007 at the Highmore Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30a.m., Tuesday, October 30, 2007 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with David Peterson officiating. Burial was in the Highmore Cemetery, directed by Luze Funeral Home of Highmore. Visitation began at 6:00p.m., Monday, October 29 with a 7:30p.m., prayer service at Luze Funeral Home in Highmore.

Violet Fern was born October 10, 1912 in Harvey, Iowa to Grace (Millege) and Edward DeGeest. Fern moved from Iowa to Ree Heights when she was two years old. She lived around Ree Heights in her younger years until she met Marion Van Den Berg who she married on January 28, 1931 and to this union, five children were born.

They lived on several places around Ree Heights until they bought a farm north of Highmore. They lived on the farm until they bought a house in town in 1994. Marion passed away in December of 1994. Fern lived in the house until she moved to the Highmore Healthcare Center in 2005.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Dwayne (Jan) Van Den Berg of Middleton, Idaho, Arla (Roy) Seachris of Thornton, Colorado, Joyce (Lane) Zeigler of Highmore, Ronald (Vicki) Van Den Berg of Highmore, and Rex (Sally) Van Den Berg of Victorville, California; 18 grandchildren; 35 great grandchildren; 6 great-great grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 8 step great grandchildren; and 2 step great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents Grace and Edward DeGeest; husband Marion; her brother Bill; and her sisters: Jesse, Pauline, and Mamie.
