He honorable discharged on January 7, 1953 with the rank of AD2.
While serving his country in the Navy, D.C. purchased a 1947 EL 61” Harley Davidson while being stationed in Hawaii. He later traded up for a 1952 BSA 650cc Golden Flash. On the BSA Golden Flash, he swept his future wife, Mary Sommer off her feet. D.C. rode to where Mary was working at the time, asked her out and she said okay. On August 18, 1953, D.C. and Mary were married at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Miller.
From 1953 to 1954, D.C. worked in a Gold Mine in Lead, South Dakota. From 1954 to 1959, he drove the Standard Oil Gas Truck in Miller and from 1959 to 1973, drove the milk route for the Terrace Park Dairy. On July 1, 1973, D.C. and Mary purchased Sommer’s Bar in Miller. Mary passed away January 9, 1981. D.C. continued to own and operate the bar until retiring on September 18, 2012.
D.C. had a love and passion for riding motorcycle. He rode for 62 years in a row; making many trips with his family. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion and VFW. He served as the 1st President of the Miller Jaycees in 1959.

My deepest sypmathy to all the family. DC was the nicest “grumpy old man” I have had the pleasure to know. I will truly miss him.
Oh classmate…I already miss you. Whan my husband was alive and we came home to Miller, the Sommers Bar was always one of our “must” stops. Now both of you are in Heaven and I miss you both.
My condolences to your children–your Dad was a great & friendly guy. As a high school classmate, we had many great times together. I pray the angels are now taking care of him and his suffering is past. God Bless you all. Beverly Collins Bergman
I have to admit that I also have to say that DC was one of my favorite “grumpy old men”! I came to find out over the years that his bark was really worse than his bite! He was a good friend to all and everyone loved him in one way or another. He will be missed by many. You all are in our thoughts and prayers…Debbie Brueggeman
I’m so very sorry to hear of your Dad’s death. Please know that I keep you in my thoughts & prayers.
So very sorry Larry to hear of your fathers passing. I hope that all your memories through the years will make this time easier. Sincerely, Kelly Grace Arbeiter
Even though I did not know D.C., I would like to extend my sincere sympathy to those that loved him and long to see him again.
My father also rode a motorcycle up into his 80s.
I would respectfully offer you this message of comfort.
“If a man die, shall he live again?” asked the man Job long ago. (Job 14:14, King James Version) Perhaps you, too, have wondered this. How would you feel if you knew you could have a reunion with your loved ones right here on earth under the best of conditions?
Well, the Bible makes the promise: “Your dead ones will live….They will rise up.” And the Bible also says: “The righteous themselves will possess the earth, and reside forever upon it.” Isaiah 26:19; Psalm 37:29.
To have confidence in such promises we need to answer some basic questions: Why do people die? Where are the dead? And how can we be sure they can live again?
I would love to share these Bible gems with you at no obligation should you contact me.

Corbie and Jeff (Ice) Pierce and the whole Bikers Battling Breast Cancer family
Our sympathy to you all. Know He is riding a Harley Davidson in Heaven. May God Bless Bret&Wendy.
Uncle Dewayne was also my Godfather and he was the coolest! Living so far from Miller, I didn’t get to see him often, but I treasured the times we were together. I’ll always remember his big smile, bear hugs and the time he took me for a “spin on the bike!” Thankfully, I have a framed picture of the two of us on that bike. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with all of you! Love, Beckie
We were very sorry to hear of your loss. Our thoughts are prayers are with you all at this very sad time.

Our sincere sympathy to cousin Dewayne’s family. He will be sadly missed by his family and his many friends. We are so sorry that we are unable to attend his funeral services today.
My Dad and Mom (Uncle Tuffy and Aunt Edna) thought so much of their nephews and nieces. They often shared such good stories of their times together. Cherish the memories of your Dad and Grandpa. God be with you all during this sad time. Our prayers are with you, Bill and Carol (Herman) Sheldon
Our deepest sympathy to all the “Herman” family. We just were notifed of our dear friend’s passing. D.C. & Mary were our attendants at our wedding in1961. Jack worked with D.C. at Terrace Park Dairy & tended bar with D.C. at Sommers’ Bar when Ray owned it. We always stopped to see & visit with him when we came back to Miller, we left there in 1967. He was a very dear friend. So sorry we didn’t know about his passing or we would ahve been there for the service.
God Bless You, Jack & Dixie Enger
Duane will be missed by everyone.
