JOAH'S TRIBUTE VIDEO

Joah Reid Strikes Enemy-Portillo, 20 month infant of Julia Strikes Enemy and Miguel Portillo of Swiftbird, passed away Monday, March 31, 2008 at the Gettysburg Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2:00p.m., Monday, April 7 at the Eagle Butte Community Building with Mike Kill Pretty Enemy and Byron Buffalo officiating. Burial was in the LaPlant Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Luce Funeral Chapel, Eagle Butte. There was a wake service at 7:00p.m., Sunday, April 6 at the Community Building with a procession from the 4 mile into Eagle Butte at 4:00p.m.

Joah Reid was born July 6, 2006 in Pierre, SD to Julia Rose Strikes Enemy and Miguel Esteban Portillo (Lorna Brown Wolf). He weighed 6 pounds 7 ounces. Joah spent his first six months with his loving Aunty Jolee Two Dogs and his mother in Eagle Butte. He then came to live with his father in Eagle Butte. Joah often stayed with his Grandma Mabel in Swiftbird before moving to Sioux Falls with his father and stepmother. Joah returned to his Grandma Mabel’s on March 26, 2008, where he spent his last days.

Joah was a loving child, who always wore a smile and filled everyone’s life with happiness and joy. He was filled with energy and passion. Joah loved French fries, playing catch, Sing along Barney, wrestling, singing, dancing and being outside. He liked to discover new things and was a fast learner. Joah also liked to hang out with his little buddy, Rocky Keith Collins. Joah will always be remembered for his mischievous little smile and untamable energy.

Joah is survived by his parents: Miguel Esteban Portillo (Lorna Brown Wolf) of Sioux Falls and Julia Rose Strikes enemy of Cherry Creek; grandmothers: Mabel Tapio of Swiftbird and Sharon Swiftbird of Eagle Butte; grandfather: Juan Portillo II; uncles: Justin Strikes Enemy, Shawn Tapio of Swiftbird, Samuel Swiftbird of Eagle Butte; Lorenzo Portillo of Sioux Falls, Paulo Portillo of Wilmar, MN, Jesse Tapio of Stillwater, MN, Jonah Bowker of Albuquerque, NM, Juan Portillo III of Kansas City, KS; aunties: Jolee Two Dogs of Eagle Butte, Aviana Portillo of Swiftbird, Amada Portillo of Mobridge, Joni Tapio of Cass Lake, MN, Amber Tapio of Flandreau, Felicia Torres of Kansas City, KS, April Swiftbird of Eagle Butte and Candace Swiftbird of Eagle Butte.

He was preceded in death by great grandparents: Dorothy Francis Strikes Enemy, Jim Buffalo, May Summers; grandparents: Bernice Strikes Enemy and Benjamin Brown Wolf and uncle PFC Sheldon Hawk Eagle.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte was entrusted with  Joah's arrangements.
