Dennis Jost was born July 29, 1935 to A. Ben and Oralle (Rowse) Jost in Lebanon, SD. He attended country school and graduated in 1953 from Gettysburg High School.

Denny went to work on the family farm with his father, eventually renting his own farm land. On August 9, 1958 he was united in marriage to Sola Pearson in Agar. They made their home in the Lebanon area where Denny continued to farm. He also managed Bob’s Steakhouse prior to him getting in to the plumbing business. He worked for a short time for Duane Comeau and Roy Nold prior to going out on his own.

In 1977 Denny started his own plumbing and backhoe business and moved his family to Agar where he remained the rest of his life.

Denny’s life revolved around country music and his family. He was a self taught musician who spent many years in a band providing music at local establishments and barn dances. Denny enjoyed his time watching his kids and grandkids sporting events, missing very few, and since his retirement greatly enjoyed his relaxing fishing trips with his great grandson, Teagan. Denny was also always up for a good game of cards, especially solitaire! Some of Denny’s others interest included Twins Baseball and both small and large game hunting.

Over the years Denny was involved with his community serving on the Agar School Board, as a 4-H Leader and announcing play days and ball games.

He is survived by his wife, Sola of Agar; his children: Tim Jost of Onida, Tamie Brandt of Onida, Mick Jost of Onida, Marti (Kurt) Arbach of Hoven and Tyler (Jennifer) Jost of Gettysburg; grandchildren: Levi (Jenny) Jost of Carbondale, IL, Ashley and Carly Jost of Agar, Keelie (Peter) Aasand of Richfield, MN, Laynee Brandt of Onida, Kassie Brandt of Gettysburg and Kelsey Bieber of Kansas City, MO; great grandchildren: Teagan Jost of Agar and Aubree Aasand of Richfield, MN; step granddaughter, Danielle McGee Campbell; step great grandchildren: Bo and Kiley McGee; brother, Ron (Eileen) Jost of Hoven; sister, Doreen (Chuck) Monroid of Scottsdale, AZ and sister-in-law, Florence Jost of Hot Springs, SD.

Denny was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Larry.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Denny’s arrangements.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Dear Sola and family, may you be surrounded with comfort and the love of your family. Thinking of you and prayers to you all. Mary Louk61d

  2. One of the greatest friends I’ve ever had. I still remember working for him on the farm in the summer of 67. He told me to watch out for badger holes but I didn’t see it, broke the shaft on the tractor. He was so great. Didn’t yell but just told me to be more careful. We last saw him and Sola when we stayed with them on our way to Pierre for the Vietnam memorial dedication. He will be missed.

  3. Solo…Thinking of you family during this sad time. God Bless.
    Hugs,
    Marcelline Hunnel

  4. Sola and Family:
Carol and I would like to express our sympathies to you and your family. Denny was such a great supporter of the Hi-Pointers during our time in Agar–pretty intense but always very positive. He will be missed by all but their are many fond memories that will long be remembered.

God Bless and Keep You All.
