Beatrice Bonita Foerster was born October 5, 1940 at the Faulkton Hospital to Leo and Mayme (Kopecky) Foerster.  She grew up with her 3 brothers and 3 sisters on the family farm west of Polo.  She attended grade school and high school in Polo, graduating in 1959.  In 1980, Bea and her parents moved to Polo.

Following high school, Bea worked for the priest in Polo, and also at the Polo High School for many years.  She also cared for her parents until their passing.

Bea was a past member of St. Liborious Catholic Church, and a church band member.  She was a long time past member of the Orient/Polo Right to Life Organization.  She was a current member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Orient, and St. Joseph's Altar Society.

She enjoyed watching, and even playing softball.  She was on the 1981 Orient women's state slow-pitch championship team.  Bea loved being where the action was, whether it was ball games, parties, a drive around the countryside, or just sitting in her favorite chair visiting with friends and family.

In the mid 1990's Bea moved to Orient, where she called home until September 2010, when she made her new home at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Everyone in the area will remember "Bea's Potato Salad."  Many have tried, and many have failed, to copy her famous recipe. She made her legendary potato salad for many ball tournaments, weddings, graduations, and birthday parties.

Bea was everyone's "Best Friend."  She accepted a lot in her lifetime, and will be greatly missed and loved.

She is survived by her sister, Marcella (Eddie) Craze of Sun Lake, AZ: her brother Art (Rosie) Foerster of Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law, Janize Nissen, Rapid City, SD; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

Bea was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings: Lee, Bonnie, Duane, and Mary Ann.

Memorials can be directed to the Orient/Polo Ball Association, PO Box 63, Orient, SD 57467.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. Bea was a special lady. Always friendly and had a smile for everybody. I remember spending time with her when I would spend time with Margie and Mary Lee. We had a good time together back then. Lots of good memories. She will be missed. Joan

  2. Dear Bea was Everyone’s special friend and will be missed by many. She was the faithful servant who was there for others with that warm, caring smile and always so willing to do whatever she could for others. Her faithful years AND years of doing the St.Liborius parish bulletin, numerous helping hand projects and just being present was a gift she shared so easily with everyone before moving to Orient. Bea will be greatly missed by her former ‘neighbors’ in Polo, Orient and especially at the Faulkton Healthcare. Bea is smiling with us from her new home in the loving arms of her Jesus.

  3. Melvin & Debbie Brueggeman says:

Melvin & I have share so many great memories with Bea. There is definitely an empty spot in our hearts now. We have shared Bea’s birthday and our wedding anniversary for quite a few years now. And even though it is our anniversary, it just won’t be the same without her! Melvin always referred to her as his “little buzz”! And I always liked the fact that she was about the only adult friend that I had that was shorter than me. We always agreed that we short people had to stick together!! Fly with the angels my little friend! You are no longer in pain and home at last!!

Love, Debbie, Melvin and the boys!

  4. So many great memories of Bea, I will cherish them forever! You will be greatly missed but I know you are enjoying heaven with no more pain! Love you!

  5. So many memories of Bea! But the one that pops out the most is playing softball at the 1981 Championship tourney!. She was always willing to play, keep score or whatever was needed for the team. 9. Was unable to attend Bea’s funeral. I remember in our “younger years”, that Bea always enjoyed whatever was taking place at the moment. God knew she was special and we all learned alot from being around her. We had a few nice visits at the Home, when I was over to visit family. Would have loved to made it to the funeral.
