Thelma Lehman

Thelma Lehman, 83, of Faulkton, passed away Thursday, February 6, 2014 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Celebration of Life was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Meadows Assisted Living, Faulkton with Pastor Tammy Craker officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Wecota.
Thelma Marie Bishop was born September 11, 1930 to Harry and Marie Jensen Bishop in Sleepy Eye, MN. Thelma spent her early childhood in the Brainard, MN area. The family moved to the West Coast when she was a young teenager and then later returned to Minnesota. In 1947 the family moved to Faulkton, SD.
On March 9, 1948 Thelma was united in marriage to LeRoy Edwin Lehman. Besides a short time in Vancouver, WA, the couple resided in Faulkton.
Thelma was an accomplished cook and shared her talent with the community for many years. She owned and operated the Snack Shop Café, was manager of the Senior Nutrition Service in Faulkton, and cooked at the VFW and other local restaurants.
Thelma was known for her strong work ethic, her great sense of humor, her never ending love of putting puzzles together, reading and creating many crafts. She loved playing cards with “the gang” and dearly loved the many friendships that were created at those card tables! If Bingo was being called, she was there!
Thelma is survived by: three sons and their families: Randall and Sherry Lehman of LeMars, IA; Benny and Joan of Aberdeen; Conrad and Tara of Newnan, GA; two daughters and their families, Cindy and Jerry Kopecky of Faulkton, and Tammy Christensen of Napa, CA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; brothers Delbert Bishop; and sisters: Donna Chase, Patricia Kolby, and Trudy Bruhn.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leroy; two grandsons, Scott and Benny; sisters: Laura Cain and Maribe Cain, brothers: Harvey Bishop and Bill Bishop.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Faulkton Meadows/Healthcare Center garden/patio project.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Thelma’s arrangements. Thoughts and prayers are with all of you during this difficult time. Thelma was a great woman, whom always had a smile and greeting for everyone. She was my first boss at the Snack Shop, she was strong, helped you develop your work ethic, and still a lot of fun. It has been hard to see her suffer these past few months.
