Robert Wieseler, 78, of Orient, passed away Sunday, June 1, 2014 at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen, surrounded by the love of his wife, children and grandchildren.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2014 at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo. Burial followed in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Polo. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2014 with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church.
Robert Wieseler was born June 2, 1935 to Joe and Susan (Bartholomew) Wieseler at Miller, SD. He was the youngest of five children and grew up on the family farm 8 ½ miles southwest of Orient. He attended Park Country Rural School all eight grades with the exception of the third grade when he boarded and attended St. Liborius Catholic School. He went on to attend four years of high school at St. Liborius in Polo from which he graduated from in 1953.
Robert’s love for baseball carried him all the way through high school and even some years after marriage.
He then met his future bride at a roller-skating Party in Orient in 1955. On October 15, 1957 he married Virginia Alice Baloun at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Seneca, SD.
They lived on the family homestead until 1972 when they bought the Dale Mord Farm. Robert and Virginia were blessed with four children: Vicki, Steven, Scot and Brenda.
On August 13, 2000 on a Sunday afternoon; Robert suffered a stroke which left him confined to a wheelchair. But with the loving care of his wife and family, they were able to share their life with him for almost another 14 years.
Robert is survived by his loving family; his wife, Virginia of 57 ½ years; children: Vicki of Gillette, WY, Steven of Grandview, MO, Scot and JoEllen (Giesen) of Orient and Brenda and Tom Schnieder of Belle Fourche; grandchildren: Dahlen Schnieder of Scottsdale, AZ, Jordan Schnieder of Belle Fourche, Desirae, Robin and Darin Wieseler of Orient; sister, Dorothy (Lawrence) Grunewaldt of Faulkton; and sister-in-law, Ann Wieseler of Sacramento, CA.
He was greeted in heaven by his parents: maternal parents, Ray and Alice Baloun; two brothers: Dominic and Richard Wieseler; one sister, Catherine Nuhsbaumer; brother-in-laws: Carl Nuhsbaumer and Dick Myler; sister-in-law, Josephine Wieseler; two nieces: Cecelia Grunewaldt and Patrice Baloun; nephew, Shane Gutenkauf; and great niece, Briana Baloun.

His Smile, His Jokes, His Laugh and His Big Heart will aways be remembered. Our prayers are with you.
