Gladine P. Bowar, 92, Faulkton, SD was called home into the loving arms of her heavenly father on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2014 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Faulkton with Father John Helmueller, celebrant. Burial followed at St. Thomas Cemetery, Faulkton. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, July 6, 2014 with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church.

Gladine Pearl (Wright) Bowar, known as Cindy by many, was born January 11, 1922 at the family home in Vayland, SD, to Oliver Carl and Lena (Lorang) Wright. As a child she attended a one room country school near her home for eight years, graduating from Miller High School in 1939. She enjoyed working at the ASCS – FSA office following graduation, until she met the love of her life at a dance in Orient, SD. Gladine married Herbert L. Bowar on November 14, 1942, moving to the Frank and Anna Bowar farm near Faulkton, where she was lovingly embraced by Herb’s large family. She became a very active member of the community in many ways.

Gladine and Herb were members of St. Thomas Catholic Church and much of life revolved around that. Gladine was a charter member of St. Monica’s Court of the Catholic Daughters of America and held many offices, including vice-regent, regent and district deputy. She enjoyed attending the annual state conventions. Her membership in the Altar Society Band kept her involved serving meals for funerals and cleaning the church. For many years she taught CCD to young children at church.

Gladine was an award winning artist and loved crafts of any kind. For several years after her nest emptied of children, she worked at Dale’s Pharmacy and enjoyed the challenges of a paying job once again and the camaraderie of her co-workers. After she and Herb moved into town they embarked on several bus trips, many trips to California to visit her sister, and other road trips with friends. They had a wonderful time doing these things.

Music touched her life and she encouraged her children to “sing their own song” in life. Her children have remained in close touch and offered her all of their love and support.

Gladine is survived by four children: Linda (Bernard) Vogel, Tom (Mary) Bowar, Jan (Dale) Miller, and Jerry (Sandy) Bowar; eight grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; and her dear sister, Cleone Andersen, Huntington Beach, CA.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband, Herb.

Gladine, or Cindy, will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched, especially her family. Thank you for the wonderful and loving care provided by the staff of the Faulkton Healthcare Center. She so appreciated every gesture of support.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Gladine’s arrangements.
