Jim Crackel, 53, of Miller, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2014 at his home.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2014 at the First Presbyterian Church, Miller with Rev. Brian Jones officiating. Burial will follow at Morningside Cemetery, Ree Heights. Visitation will be 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Friday, September 12, 2014 at Reck Funeral Home, Miller.
James was born August 29, 1961 to Raymond “Barney” and Mary Betty (Snethen) Crackel in Huron, SD. He grew up on a farm south of Ree Heights until his father’s death in 1964. The family moved to Ree Heights and then Miller in 1968. Jim graduated from Miller High School in 1979 and Northern State University in 1983 with a degree in Mathematics. He taught at Willow Lake and Red Scaffold schools. He then worked at Lil Feller, Daily Plainsman, and the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.
Jim was an avid fan of sports; he especially enjoyed watching the Twins and Vikings. He also enjoyed playing cards with friends. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and the Masonic Lodge, both in Miller.
Blessed to have shared in his life were his mother, Mary Betty of Miller; sister, Pat of Miller; brothers: Philip of Rapid City and Bob (Andrea) of Minot, ND; nephew, Levi Crackel of Minot, ND; aunt, Della Snethen of Springfield, and several cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father; paternal grandparents, Joe and Pearl Crackel; maternal grandparents, Harry and Edith Snethen; three uncles: Harry and Philip Snethen and Wayne Crackel; and two aunts, Ida and Louisa Crackel.
Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Jim’s arrangements.

I remember Mr Crackel as my HS math teacher in Red Scaffold. He was a nice man and did not mind sharing his treats for homework well done. So sorry for your loss. . . please accept my deepest condolences.

Jim and I attended Northern State at the same time. He had a great sense of humor, and he was a genuinely nice guy. RIP, Jim.
My heartfelt thoughts & prayers go out to Jim’s family in your loss. I worked with Jim at Lil’ Feller. He was a good & caring worker. He enjoyed visiting with the school personal whenever the bus stopped in on the way home from a sporting event.

I had some great times with Jim while attending Northern! He loved playing cards and yes…..an occasional beer at the Zoo! RIP Jim!

Little did I know when I recently saw Jim at the Blunt Junction two weeks ago, that he’d be gone so soon. As he was getting out of a car, I was leaving. I will never forget his smile and wave goodbye. You are all in my thoughts and prayers.
