Albert McRoberts, 85, of Lebanon, passed away Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at Avera Dougherty Hospice House, Sioux Falls.

Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 13, 2014 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial followed in the Lebanon Cemetery with military honors. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Albert McRoberts was born September 22, 1929 in DeSmet, SD to Clarence and Grace (Converse) McRoberts. His family moved to a farm south of Lebanon where he received his education by attending area country school. He then moved to a farm south of Tolstoy. There he worked for local farmers before he joined the United States Army in 1951 and served until 1957.

During Albert’s time in the service, he met Jeanette McCann in Winona, MN, and they married on June 7, 1953 in Gettysburg South Dakota.

Albert especially loved to fish. He also enjoyed gardening, canning, and watching football—especially the Green Bay Packers. He was proud to have been a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He also owned a paint and glass business until he retired in the late 1990’s, and after Jeanette’s passing in 1999, Albert moved to Lebanon.

Survivors include his son, Terry McRoberts of La Crosse, WI; grandchildren: Lisa (Chad) Weaver of Arcadia, WI, Greg (Tammy) McRoberts of La Crosse, WI, and Becky (Brent) DeCook of St. Charles, MN; sister, Janice (Steve Smith) Oaks of Lebanon; brother, James (Hazel) McRoberts of Lebanon; half-sister, Dixie Kurzenberger; step-sister, Sandra (Tony) Beckler; nephew Mike (Donna) McCann of Eyota, MN; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Jeanette; his parents; his brothers: Gene, Virgil, Melvin, and Marvin McRoberts; and his sisters: Arleen Ellis and Mildred Rath.

Luce Funeral of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Albert’s arrangements.
