Alvin was born August 28, 1936 in Colome, South Dakota to Bryan and Lucille (Westover) Gibson. He attended school in Eagle Township, Hyde County. For three seasons, he went to work for a custom harvest crew; working between Texas and Canada. Alvin met the lady of his dreams, Noreen Converse and they were married in Fort Pierre on July 2, 1955. To this union, three children were born: Curtis, Carla, and Christi.

After marriage, he worked on a farm owned by George Wilson. He then went to Watertown and worked on the high voltage transmission lines for a year. Alvin began working for Bridge Construction but decided he loved the power line field and went back working on them. Throughout his career, he worked on power lines in Montana, South Dakota, Wyoming, Colorado, Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Texas, Tennessee, Kentucky, Pennsylvania, and New York. In 1987, he retired. After retirement, Alvin assisted his brother-in-law, Terry Marso, with a hunting lodge, Hunters Haven, in New Underwood, South Dakota. The family moved back to Highmore in 1992.

Alvin did odd jobs in Highmore for Jim Dittman, and his good friends, Clayton Alfson and Dale Kutz. He also went out to their family farm and helped his mother Lucille with her lambing, haying, and whatever else she needed help with.

Some of Alvin’s favorite pastimes were watching John Wayne movies, making homemade ice cream, and spending time with his family. Alvin was an excellent caregiver for his wife, Noreen and his mother, Lucille.

Alvin was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Union (IBEW) and local 426 in Sioux Falls. He was very proud when he received his journeymen lineman card and for providing power to millions of people.

He will be greatly missed by his wife, Noreen Gibson of Highmore; son, Curtis (Betty) Gibson of Highmore; daughters: Carla (Don) McGregor of Pierre and Christi (Mike) Riley of Highmore; mother, Lucille Gibson of Highmore; sisters: Anna Mae (Paul) Ryan of Lancaster, CA and Sharon Kay (Dick) Wilson of Sioux Falls; brothers: Gary Gibson of Highmore and Allen (De) Gibson of Highmore; sister-in-law, Rosa Lee Gibson of Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Laurel (Andy) Sharp of Pierre, Marc McGregor (Samantha Krier) of Pierre, Curtis Wayne Riley (Beth Zilverberg) of Pierre, and Shauna Riley (Michael Moran) of Houston, TX; and two great granddaughters, Harper Riley and Avery Sharp; they were the light of his eye.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bryan Gibson; and brothers, Carl LeRoy and Merlin Gibson.
