Delphine Leona Rogers was born September 7, 1927 in rural Potter County to Elmer Sr. and Sarah (McLean) Hansen. She graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1946, and on June 10, 1946, she married Leon Rogers at the United Methodist Church in Gettysburg. They were married for 68 wonderful years and lived most of their life in the Elida Township, seven miles southeast of Gettysburg.

Delphine spent many years working as a homemaker. She also worked at the Potter County Treasurer’s Office from 1948-1950, at the Bowling Alley Cafe from 1962-1963, and at the ophthalmology clinic for Dr. Torbert. In 1967 she began helping Leon raise their herd of sheep. Delphine was proud to have served on the city council. She was a hard worker who helped initiate the Super 8 Motel and the fourplex apartments on Main Street.

Delphine enjoyed music, and she always loved to sing. Throughout her life, she sang at over 200 funerals. She was a member of the United Methodist Choir for over 65 years, and she was an active member in the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. Delphine also spent a lot of time fishing and playing cards with Leon and her lifelong friends, Delores and Roger Moore.

While living in the Black Hills from 1988-1989, Delphine met a special Greek friend, Eleni Mavrondoni. Eleni was a neighbor who became her lifelong friend. She came to visit several times, and she always called Delphine “Mommy”. The last time Eleni spoke with Delphine and Leon, she had mentioned visiting them in December.

After Delphine and Leon retired, they spent many winters in the south and took several bus trips which they very much enjoyed.

Survivors include her husband, Leon Rogers; sisters-in-law: LaJean Hansen of Gettysburg, Arliss Hansen of St. James, MN, and Bonnie Comeau of Armour; brother-in-law, Dale (Phyllis) Rogers of Sioux Falls; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.

Delphine is preceded in death by her parents; her brothers: Johnny and Terry Hansen; her nephew, Kirk Hansen; and her great-nephew, Erik Hansen.

Luce Funeral of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Delphine’s arrangements.
