Magdalena Deis, 95, of Onaka, passed away, Monday, November 10, 2008 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center where she had resided for the last 25 years.
Mass of Christian Burial was held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 12, 2008 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Onaka with Fr. Dennis Deis, OMI and Fr. Lance Oser officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 11 at the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton.
Magdalena “Lena” Deis was born May 16, 1913 at Onaka, South Dakota to Jacob Sr. and Katherine (Gisi) Fix. She attended school in the Onaka area. In October of 1936 Lena married Anton Deis. To this union two sons were born, Fr. Dennis Deis, OMI and Leonard Deis.
Lena enjoyed and was very talented in Interior Design. She also enjoyed needle work and gardening. Lena’s faith was very important to her. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church of Onaka, the Onaka Auxiliary and Christian Mothers.
Lena is survived by her son: Fr. Dennis Deis, OMI of Sisseton; daughter-in-law: Phyllis Deis of Onaka; two grandchildren: Doug (Peg) and RaDelle Deis of Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law: Rose Fix Wagner of Hettinger, ND, JoAnn Fix of Oklahoma, Helen DeRosier of Florida, Kathy (Pete, Dec.) Deis and Pius (Kathy) Deis of California; three great grandchildren: Trenton, Aimee and Nathan Deis of Sioux Falls and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Leonard, three brothers and one sister.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Magdalena's arrangements.
