Marjorie Bisbee, 87, of Cresbard, passed away Monday, December 29, 2014 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family.
Memorial Service was held at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 2, 2015 at the United Methodist Church, Cresbard with Pastor Julie Nygaard presiding. Prayer service was held at 7:00 p.m., Thursday, January 1, 2015, at the church.
Marge was born on October 9, 1927 in Faulkton, SD to Engval “Evie” and Lily (Rasmussen) Everson. The Eversons raised their two daughters Mildred “Midge” and Marjorie in Onaka, SD. In 1943, the family moved to Cresbard when Evie was transferred through Standard Oil.
Marge attended and graduated from Cresbard High School in 1945 just as WWII was coming to an end. She then continued her education at the Spearfish Norman School where she received her teaching certificate. She went on to teach at a local country school and later at the Seneca School.
Marge married Dale Bisbee after he returned from his service overseas. The couple was married in Marge’s parents’ home during a blizzard on November 23, 1947 Helen Bisbee, Marge’s best friend, and Les Shew trudged through the snow to attend.
The Bisbees first made their home on the farm in the Devoe area. In 1952 Dale bought and began managing the Standard Oil business in Cresbard, and they moved into Marge’s parents’ home on Main Street.
As the family grew to eight children, Marge stayed busy as ever in her community. She was actively involved in many organizations such as the United Methodist Women, the United Methodist Circle, the Home Extension Club, and the Cresbard/Devoe Museum Committee. She and Dale were also both active in Boy Scouts and 4H. She was most proud of her 68 year membership in the American Legion Auxiliary. Marge also kept busy teaching Sunday school and Bible school for many years. She loved her Canasta playing group and the Red Hats, and she adored the friends she met every morning for coffee. The “Coffee Sippers” were all very special to her.
Baking and cooking were a way of life to Marge, and she made absolutely perfect pie crusts. Her shelves were always filled with jars of prepared produce from the garden. Marge’s family remembers her very kind and generous heart the most. Through the years the family shared many exciting moments together. Dale converted a school bus to an RV, and the family took it on many vacations and camping trips.
Marge’s life will be cherished by her children: David (Cindy) of Pierre, Russell (Dianne) of Cresbard, Daniel of Cresbard, Bruce (Bernie) of Aberdeen, Colleen (John) Klein of Aberdeen, Dixie of Cresbard, Diana of Webster, and Barry (Barb) of Rapid City; her grandchildren: Ramona, DJ, Tina, Jason, Tony, Michelle, Jon, Celisity, Heather, Darcie, Bobbi, Holli, and Beau; 31 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Midge Helsing of Hot Springs, AR.
She is preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Dale Bisbee.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Marjorie’s arrangements.
