Vern Hill, 79, of Wessington, died Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Violet Tschetter Memorial Home in Huron. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 29 at the Wessington Presbyterian Church with Rev. Beth Kelsey officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, February 28 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Masonic service all at Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence. Burial will be at the Wessington Cemetery.

Vern Edward Hill, son of Lester and Adelaide (Grinnel) Hill was born May 23, 1932 on the family farm near Wessington. After graduating from Wessington High School, Vern worked on the family farm until his retirement. The Hill farm celebrated 100 years in 2010.

Blessed to have shared Vern?s life is his wife of 35 years, Mary of Wessington; four step-sons John of Wessington, Don (Linda) of Wessington, Jerry (Shari) of Rapid City, Jim (Denise) of Rapid City; 7 step-grandchildren, Justin (Kendra) Hanks, Kevin (Lee Ann) Hanks, Jami (Josh) Walth, Amber Hanks, Katie Hanks, Nicholas Hanks, Jimmy Hanks; and seven step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Howard and sister Helen.

Vern was a member of the Masonic Lodge and was a Shriner. He will be remembered for his love of hunting with the boys and for his love of his animals.
