Lorraine Blachford, 92, of Miller, died Sunday, April 1, 2012 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 5 at the First Baptist Church in Miller. Visitation will be Wednesday, April 4 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service all at Rembold Funeral Home in St. Lawrence. Burial will be at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller.

Lorraine Elsie Blachford, daughter of Albert and Daisy Heywood Blachford was born October 21, 1919 in Boone County, Illinois at the family homestead.
She married Raymond Blachford in July 1938. To this union, one son, Ronald was born.

Lorraine and Raymond lived and farmed in rural Hand County until 1959 when they moved to Miller. After moving to Miller, she worked at the Hand County Memorial Hospital for over 20 years.

Lorraine enjoyed gardening, canning, crocheting, quilting, and spending time with her family, especially her 3 great great grandchildren.

She is survived by her son Ronald of Miller, 5 grandchildren: Ronette (Steve) Stewart, Mark (Belinda) Blachford, Jason (Jenny) Blachford, Deb Merxbauer, and Vicki Fields. 6 Great Grandchildren, Sarah (Lance) DeHaai, John Stewart, Keith and Hannah Blachford, Virginia (Kevin) Judisch, and Megan Fields. 3 Great Great Grandchildren Schelbie, Aubrey and Tanner DeHaai. 1 brother and 4 sisters.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 6 brothers, 1 sister, and 2 daughters in law.

Memorials may be sent to the First Baptist Church of Miller, SD, The Miller Lions Club, or The Shriners.

  1. I was very sorry to hear about Aunt Lorraine’s passing. She was a special lady who was able to be independent and enjoy life all of her life. She will be greatly missed.

  2. Lorraine was always so pleasant to visit with when I delivered meals to her. It is so nice that the kids lived so so close. I know they where a joy to her. Treasure the memories.

    So sorry to hear of the loss of your Mom & Grandma. Lorraine worked at the hospital when I had my babies and always brought them into me with a smile on her face. Although I have not seen her in years I always enjoyed the short visits I had with her. She was a very special lady and lived a good life. Our deepest sympathies to all of you…Debbie Brueggeman
