Joyce J. Simpson, 73, of Miller, died Saturday, July 12 at the Avera Hand County Memorial Hospital in Miller. Memorial services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 16 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller. Inurnment will be at G.A.R. Cemetery in Miller.

Joyce Simpson was born Joyce Joan Hoffman, daughter of Samuel and Ida (Aman) Hoffman, on March 11, 1941 in Ashley, ND. The family moved to Braddock, ND where Joyce was raised, graduating from high school in 1958.

Joyce married Donald Simpson on November 8, 1958 in Braddock, ND and lived in San Diego, CA for two years while Don served in the U.S. Navy. They then moved to Aberdeen, SD until 1962 when they moved to their present home in Miller, SD.
Joyce worked many years as the Deputy Clerk of Courts in the Hand County Courthouse where she had many friends.

Joyce enjoyed gardening, reading, visiting, playing cards, feeding birds, and her pets. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Delmar Hoffman.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 56 years, Don of Miller and 3 sons: David (Michelle) Simpson of Federal Way, WA and their children: Ben (Nancy) and April (Parker). Dale (Jill) Simpson of St. Lawrence, SD and their children: Kevin (Liz), Chris (Jess), Lucas and Joseph. Robert (Lisa) Simpson of Huron, SD and their children: Justin and Jennifer. 1 brother: Donald (Vicky) Hoffmann of Pahrump, NV and their children: Darren and Michael (Laura). 2 great-grandchildren: Harley Nelson and Elli Wendt.
