Oliver “Ole” Olsen, 93, of Highmore, died Friday, November 28, at the Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, December 2, 2008 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Highmore with Fr. Paul Nereparmpil officiating. Burial was in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Highmore with full military honors. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Monday, December 1, 2008 at the Luze Funeral Home, Highmore with a 7:00 p.m. wake service at the church.

Oliver Olsen was born June 15, 1915 to George and Clara (Hanson) Olsen in Aberdeen, SD. He grew up and attended school in the Aberdeen area.

On August 6, 1943 Ole joined the United States Navy. He was a sailor of vessels and was stationed to serve at NRS Seattle Washington, USNCTC, Camp Peary, VA, 144th, Naval Construction, Main Unit #596, Adv. Base Rec. BKS USNB, Port Hue meme Commander, USNB, Port Hue meme, California. Ole received his honorable discharge on October 27, 1945.

He married the love of his life, Rosella Klebsch on October 6, 1945. They remained in California while Ole worked as a warehouse foreman where movies were made. In the late 1940’s they moved to Highmore where they made their home. He sold Dr. McDonald’s Feed for many years and then went on to become a sheriff’s deputy before retiring. Following retirement Ole spent many years helping Mike and Dee Luze at the Luze Funeral Home.

Over the years Ole kept busy being a lifelong member of the Highmore Fire Department where he served a term as chief. He was also actively involved in the American Legion and St. Mary’s Catholic Church. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards and spending time with his beloved Rosella, family and friends.

Ole is survived by his wife, Rosella, of Highmore; one sister, Helen and one half brother, Sydney.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Ole's arrangements.
