Frank Eugene Weber was born September 17, 1914 to Karl F. and Elizabeth (Hettich) Weber at Tolstoy, SD. He lived on a farm north of Tolstoy where he received his education at the Tolstoy school. As a youngster, Frank enjoyed attending the circus in Gettysburg every year and ice skating in the winter. During the depression years he worked with his Dad and brothers on the W.P.A. When he was 15, he moved with his family to Montana. He was employed on several ranches where he worked with horses. He joined the U.S. Army in June 1942 and served as a radio operator in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany for 42 months. He received an honorable discharge October 1945.
He married Thelma L. Dreyer on Easter Sunday, March 30, 1947 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Seneca, SD. They lived on farms near Seneca until 1950 when they moved to the Dreyer farm west of Seneca. They started a small dairy farm, first milking cows by hand, then by milking machines, and finally installing a pipeline. While living on the farm, Frank built many of the buildings which are still used today. He served on the North Canton School Board which was a country school located 1 mile west of the farm. He was an active, devoted church member, serving as Sunday School superintendent for many years. He was also a member of the Seneca American Legion, served as local commander, and Faulk County commander in 1975-76. Frank and Thelma enjoyed playing cards and hosting card parties.
In 1968, Frank and his family became charter members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Faulkton and served on the church council for several years. After 30 years of farming, Frank and Thelma moved to Faulkton in 1977. They built their first new home themselves with the help of their brother-in-law, Melvin Klein. Frank and Thelma also helped their children with their many remodeling projects. Frank also did home improvements projects for many people in Faulkton. He joined the Faulkton American Legion and Autumn Leaves Senior Center. Frank and Thelma later moved to East View Apartments in 1991, where he was a caretaker at the apartments until he was forced to retire due to ill health in 1997. In 2006, they moved to the Meadows of Faulkton Assisted Living and then to the Faulkton Healthcare Center.
Frank’s priorities were God, family and country. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. His kindness, humor, and stories will be missed.
Survivors include two sons, Richard (Patricia), Seneca, SD; Barry (Gloria), Sioux Falls, SD; two daughters DeeAnn (Al) Lovett, Arlington, SD; and Sherry (Gary) Karber, Brookings, SD; 11 grandchildren, and two great-grandsons.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, parents, four brothers: Fred, Bruno, Conrad (Otto), Herbert, and three sisters: Josephine Hoffmann, Mathilda (Tilly) Pappel, and Ericka (Ricki) Ward.
Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Frank’s arrangements.
