Gerrit Van Den Eykel, age 90, of Gettysburg, passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015 at the Avera Gettysburg Hospital.

Gerrit Van Den Eykel was born on October 28, 1924 in Lebanon, SD to Jacob and Maartje (Van Zuylen) Van Den Eykel. He attended school in Lebanon until he started working on the family farm north of Gettysburg.
Gerrit was a very hard worker who usually worked seven days a week on the farm. He kept his farming operation until 2010 and his ranching operation until 2012. Gerrit always loved animals, especially those around the farm. In his free time, he enjoyed attending farm sales around the area. Gerrit also loved his nieces and nephews very much and spent a lot of time with them as they were growing up.
Gerrit’s life will be cherished by his brother, Martin Van Den Eykel; his nieces and nephews: Jim (Rhonda) Van Den Eykel, Vana (Tom) Larson, Debby Iwen, Marty Van Den Eykel, and John Van Den Eykel; and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Gerrit’s arrangements.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Garrett was a regular visitor out here at the farm. Lots of times he brought cookies too. He will be missed on Sunday afternoons. Rest in peace. You had lots of trial here on earth. You made the best of your years here tho.
