Phyllis Flemmer
July 15, 1933 ~ September 1, 2014
Phyllis Flemmer, 81, of Rapid City and formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at Rapid City Regional Hospital from pneumonia.
Memorial service was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, July 25, 2015 at Luce Funeral Home, Gettysburg with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial followed in the Gettysburg Cemetery.
Phyllis Winters was born July 15, 1933 in Gettysburg to Josiah and Mildred (Bauer) Winters. She later changed her name to Phyllis Vetter after her mother married Albert Vetter. Phyllis graduated from Gettysburg High School in 1951. She attended the University of South Dakota briefly before returning to Gettysburg to marry Herb Flemmer.
Phyllis was united in marriage to Herb on December 26, 1951. Their son Don was born April 23, 1963. As an adult, Phyllis worked and lived in the Gettysburg area a majority of her life. She was Gettysburg’s City Finance Officer for over 23 years. She eventually moved to Rapid City after Herb passed away in 2006. Phyllis enjoyed watching and playing golf and was a huge fan of the Minnesota Vikings and Twins.
Surviving her is her son, Don and granddaughter Erin of Rapid City; former daughter-in-law, Mary of Tempe; sister, Norma Marks of Gettysburg; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father, mother, stepfather, grandson Michael Steffen and husband Herb.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Phyllis’ arrangements.
