David Delbert “Crockett” Haskell, Jr., 59, of Eagle Butte, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at the Golden Living Center of Ipswich.
Funeral services were held at 9:00 a.m. MDT, Friday, June 26, 2015 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte with Mother Margaret Watson presiding. Burial was held at 1:00 p.m., Friday at Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. Wake services were held at 7:00 p.m. MDT, Thursday, June 25, 2015 at the church, with a procession forming at the 4 mile junction at 4:00 p.m.
David Delbert Haskell, Jr. was born February 25, 1956, at the Old Cheyenne Agency on the Cheyenne River Reservation in South Dakota; the son of David D. Haskell, Sr. and Barbara M. Zephier. David will be remembered for his charismatic personality, storytelling and his ability to make fast friends. If you met him, you wouldn’t forget him. He attended the 212 Day School, Eagle Butte Boarding School, and the Pierre Indian School.Crockett enjoyed Native American dance and made his own traditional outfit so he could attend pow-wows. He was a natural horseman who loved to ride, and trained a number of horses for various ranches. David joined the United States Navy and served in Vietnam. Upon completion of his service, he married Cheryl Four Bear and they had two sons, Chas and David III. Crockett was also artist and attended Santa Fe School of Arts. He created contemporary Native American jewelry, beadwork, and leatherwork.
David is survived by his wife, Cheryl Four Bear of Swiftbird, SD; his children: Wade Bowles of Pierre, Chas (Robin) Haskell of Lawrence, KS, and David Haskell III of Pierre, SD; four grandchildren; his siblings: Elizabeth (Percy) Sanford of Dupree, SD, Dana Sherman Haskell of Las Vegas, NV, Tamala Key Haskell of Macy, NE, Delaine Reed Haskell of Phoenix, AZ, Michael James Haskell of Dupree, SD and Lori Lee Haskell of St. Paul, MN.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one grandchild; two brothers: Timothy Edward Haskell and William Dennis Haskell.
Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with David’s arrangements.

Crockett, I remember you from years past when you came to Rapid City to visit Maxine Quick Bear. At the time I was already enlisted in the Navy, I was just an E-3 then. I remember when you needed a ride to Pierre and before we were half way there, these yahoo’s at the gas station wanted to take us on because of the color of our skin. Cooler heads prevailed and we gave them the finger and took off.
You will be missed Shipmate along with Chadwick Williams my brother-in-law. FAIR WINDS AND FOLLOWING SEAS.

To Luce Funeral Chapel, as David’s third WIFE, I’m officially a Widow now, just letting you know we never divorced, just separated. Last time I saw david was at the Winnavegas Casino on May 2nd in Sloan, Iowa.
Sorry for the families loss. David will live on in your lives. Cherish the memories!
I Love you so much Uncle! I’m so, so, sorry I couldn’t be there but I love you so much! I will miss you so much! I’m so glad I got to see you in January we talked and Hugged and I told you then how I felt about you. I will see you again Uncle, I love you so much!
