Slade Del-Rey Genzler was born on September 11, 1998 to Louie Jr. and Rebecca Genzler in Pierre, SD.  Slade’s younger years were spent in Gettysburg; however when he was seven years old, his family relocated to Texas.  Slade spent most of his school years in El Paso, TX, but he returned to South Dakota in 2013 and began attending Riggs High School.  Slade always had dreams of moving back to Texas.

Slade had a gentle smile that could melt the hearts of all who were around him.  He was willing to help anyone in need and did so with great compassion and readiness.  Slade had many loves in his life.  He was also very creative; he was always able to create something out of an object others considered trash or useless.  Slade loved the outdoors.  He enjoyed camping and was an avid fisher, hunter, and trapper; he loved to do these things with his family.  His main love in life was family—especially all of his nieces and nephews.  He was always the silly uncle who played with them on the floor.  Slade also loved to skateboard; you could always find him down at the skate park trying to nail the next cool trick on his board.  His friends were always a big part of his life; Slade was rarely seen without friends, and he was always known for cheering them up.

With his goofy personality and his giving nature, he won the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  Slade’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of time he spent with us far exceeds the quantity of time he spent with us.

Slade is survived by his loving parents, Louie Jr. and Rebecca Genzler of Blunt; his brothers, Schad Genzler of Blunt, Scott Genzler of Mitchell, William (Molly) Genzler of Aberdeen, and Steele Genzler of Gettyburg; his sisters, Raelyne (Nathan Marshall) Genzler of Pierre, and Alicia (Lenny Hotchkin) Genzler of Wyoming; his grandparents, Louie Sr. and Sieglinde Genzler of Aberdeen; nieces and nephews:  Auvree Genzler, Aayden Marshall, Emily Genzler, Mason Genzler, Leaha Genzler, Nicholas Peterson, Jade Hotchkin, and Cerie Hotchkin; and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Slade was preceded in death by his sister, Aleaha Genzler; and his grandparents, Francis and Ruth Curtis.

Memorials can be directed to the Genzler Family Fund at the Oahe Federal Credit Union of Pierre or to Slade’s GoFundMe Page.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Slade’s arrangements.

Jr, Becky and family, words can not express how much we love you and your children. Becky, you, my husband and myself grew up together and Jr I have known for most of my life, so it is hard not to think of you as anything but family. Your son Slade was an exceptional young man, bright, funny, charming, charismatic, helpful, compassionate, strong, resourceful, adventurous, respectful (unless he saw someone being bullied, then it was on), gentle, smart, but best of all so very loving. This world is just not the same without his presence, but Heaven is now so very much more blessed with him there. Our hearts are with you and we will be there for you every step of the way through this. Love you so!
