Marcelline S. Hunnel, 77, of Seneca, passed away, Saturday, October 17, 2015 at her home.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, October 22, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Gettysburg with Father Jerry Kopel, celebrant. Burial followed in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 21, 2015, with a 7:00 p.m. wake service, all at the church.
Marcelline S. McGrath was born March 15, 1938 in Saint Peter, MN to Terrence and Margaret (Hoven) McGrath. The family moved to the Hoven/Tolstoy, SD area when Marcelline was quite young. It was there that Marcelline received her education, and graduated from Hoven High School in 1956.
On April 30, 1958, Marcelline was united in marriage to Harold E. Hunnel. They settled on the family farm south of Seneca where they raised their family. Marcelline worked around the farm until her children were grown and then went to work as a CNA at the Oahe Manor in Gettysburg. She also worked for the Seneca Egg Company before retiring.
Reading, spending time on the computers and Facebook, sewing, gardening or on the telephone keeping in touch with family and friends were some of her most enjoyable hobbies. Her family and faith were very important parts of her life. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Seneca, Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg, and also the voting board.
Her life will be cherished by her sons: Stanley (Kellie) Hunnel of Gettysburg, Craig (Lori) Hunnel of Gettysburg, David (Theresa) Hunnel of Hoven and Kevin Hunnel of Aberdeen; daughter, Stacey (Robert) Sherer of Deadwood; son-in-law, Joe Hartung of Hoven; 16 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings: Pat (Sandy) McGrath of Faulkton, Matt (Gloria) McGrath of Saskatoon, Canada, Terry McGrath of Morgan Hill, CA, Greg (Linda) McGrath of Hoven, Sandy (Ken) Pfiefer of Aurora, NE, Sheila Hoke of Sturgis, Norma (Bill) Litchenberg of Grafton, NE, Janice Litster of Sturgis, and Noel Doerr of Agar.
Marcelline was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold, in 1993; daughter, Stephanie Hartung; grandson, Justin Hunnel; and three siblings: Francis McGrath, Margie Potter and Robert McGrath.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Marcelline’s arrangements.

It is with a heavy heart today reading about Marecelline, my thoughts and prayers are with all her family members from her brief hers and sisters to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Marcelline was a really wonderful person I enjoyed working side by side with her at the manor and sharing moments in life that sometimes seem like only yesterday.
