Lance D. Olen, 65 of Wecota, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at Faulkton Area Medical Center.

Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the Immanuel Lutheran Church, Wecota with Pastor Timothy Koch officiating. Burial followed at the Millard Cemetery. Visitation was held from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, November 2, 2015 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Lance Dennis Olen was born February 6, 1950 at Faulkton, SD to Jack and Gladys (Deloy) Olen. He attended country school at Norbeck and graduated from Cresbard High School in 1968. He then attended one year of college in Aberdeen and then helped on the family farm while his brothers were in the service.

On June 29, 1974 Lance was united in marriage to Patricia Jackson at Zell, SD. They moved around South Dakota including Watertown where Lance worked building homes. In the early 1980’s they returned to the Wecota area. He worked for Holsing Farms, in laws (Clifford and Leota Jackson) near Rockham, Cenex and the Pasture Research Center until he started farming on his own. He started renting land and eventually purchased it, farming along with his brothers until the time of his passing.

Lance enjoyed farming, watching his children and grandchildren play sports, riding 4-wheeler, and guiding hunters.

Lance’s life will be treasured by his wife Patricia of Wecota; his three children: Mark Olen of Sioux Falls, Angela (Ben) Grams of Hermosa, and Lori (Cody) Bruns of Warner; his grandchildren: Elijah, Seth and Isaiah Grams and Easton and Avery Bruns; his siblings: David Olen, Donald Olen and Mary Olen of Wecota and Father and Mother in Law Clifford and Leota Jackson of Rockham, Sisters in Law: Deb (Terry) Rohlfs of Wolsey and Jean Jackson of Aurora, CO, and one niece and nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorial can be directed to the Millard Cemetery, c/o Steve Wik, 35052 154th St., Faulkton, SD 57438 or the Faulkton Hospital Foundation, PO Box 100, Faulkton, SD 57438.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Lance’s arrangements.
