Carol Mahto

Carol Mahto, 77, of Gettysburg, passed away February 22, 2016 at the Golden Living Center in Pierre.
Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m. CST, Thursday, February 25, 2016 at White Horse Community Hall with Pastor Matthew Dickerson presiding. Burial followed in St. Theresa Catholic Cemetery, White Horse. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the hall.
Carol Ducheneaux was born December 20, 1938 at Old Cheyenne Agency to Casper and Ada (Means) Ducheneaux. She attended school at Old Cheyenne, St. Joseph’s in Chamberlain, and graduated from Crow Creek School at Stephan.
Following school, Carol married Roderick Hall and the couple moved to Dallas Texas. In 1975 she moved to Eagle Butte where she went to work for the Cheyenne River Police Department as a dispatcher.
In the early 80’s, Carol married Carlisle Mahto. They enjoyed traveling the country, following wherever Carlisle’s job led them. In 1999 she moved to Aberdeen and worked for BIA and IHS until she retired in 2000. Carol lived between Gettysburg, Pierre and Mobridge so she could be near her grandkids. After her retirement, Carol worked for the United Tribes in Pierre and Grand River Casino near Mobridge.
Some of Carol’s favorite things to do were fishing, playing bingo, traveling, and spending time with her dogs and grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her children: Carrie Hall (Jackie Nerby) of Sioux Falls, Delano Hall of Pierre, Renee (Brady) Bear Stops of Pierre, Marie (William Robert) Arthur of Shenandoah Junction, WV, and Jason Mahto of Ft. Pierre; grandchildren: Arlyn, Caysee, Catie, Carly, Tyler, Bob, Kirbee, Jacob, Frances, Juella, Dionne, Samuel, Danny, Jordyn and Cameron; great grandchildren: Lauryn, Ainsley, Karsyn, Kenzi, John and Kamryn; siblings: Karen (Rusty) Pearman of Gettysburg, Robert (Connie) Ducheneaux of Fort Thompson, and Elmer Ducheneaux of Arizona.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Katherine Hall and her siblings: Lois, Bill, Lyle and Raymond.
The family would like to give special thanks for all of her caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital, Avera Mary House, Avera Gettysburg Hospital, Golden Living Center and Luce Funeral Home.
Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Carol’s arrangements.
