GLADYS' TRIBUTE VIDEO

Gladys L. Hoefert, 85, of Seneca, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at the Faulkton Healthcare Center.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, May 2, 2009 at the St Paul’s Lutheran Church in Seneca with Pastor Mark Moldenhauer officiating. Burial followed in the Oakland Cemetery, Seneca. Visitation was held from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 1, 2009 at the Luce Funeral Home in Faulkton with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service.

Gladys Lorraine Swenson was born October 25, 1923 to Severt and Anna Karine (Hundstad) Swenson at the family home in Bath, South Dakota. She attended school in rural Brown County and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School and Northern State Teachers College in Aberdeen. She taught school in Seneca, Brookings, Aberdeen, Lebanon and Faulkton. She also taught music lessons.

Gladys married Robert Hoefert on December 1, 1946 at the Scandinavia Lutheran church in Bath, SD. and they resided in Seneca where they established Hoefert’s Implement in 1951.

In addition to her teaching career, Gladys was a partner in the family business, served on the Seneca town board, Seneca School Board and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Seneca serving in various church offices.

After a lengthy illness Gladys became a resident of the Faulkton Healthcare Center in July of 2006.

Her memory will be cherished by her children: Rick (Louise) Hoefert, Kathryn (James) Bitzer, and Kirk (Kristi) Hoefert all of Seneca; son in-law Pat Pins of Mandan, ND; thirteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and one brother: LaVerne Swenson, one sister in-law Hazel Swenson both of Aberdeen, and many nephews and nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents: Severt and Karine Swenson, her husband Robert, one daughter: Barbara (Hoefert) Pins, two grandsons: Jeffery Bitzer and Jared Bitzer, one sister: Irene Swenson, one brother: Ernest Swenson, and one sister in-law: Della Swenson.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Gladys's arrangements.

My Dear Cousins, I will always treasure the memories of you Mother-All the times we were together for Holidays and family get togethers on the farm and in seneca.The video brought back precious memories of Grandma and Grandpa,Bob, Barb, and all those who have gone before us. I will always remember the free popcorn and movies that your Mom and Dad gave the Vopat kids- What a treat! Gladys gave me piano lessons for 5 years and what a great teacher she was!
