Erma M. Vanhove was born July 6, 1915 in Lyon County, Iowa to Camille and Alice (Minnaert) Vanhove. At five years of age, the family moved to Madison, SD where she received her education, graduating from Central High School. She continued on and received her two year teaching certificate from Eastern College. She taught school in Lake County, Kingsbury County, and for six years near Gettysburg.
On December 30, 1941, Erma was united in marriage to Theodore Holzwarth. They made their home on the family farm where Erma became a homemaker helping out around the farm and raising the family.
Theodore passed away in 1973. Erma then began volunteering at the Potter County Library and took up the sport of golf. She enjoyed spending her time golfing, bowling in league and national tournaments, and traveling to see her kids and grandkids. Erma was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and served as president of the Ladies Aid.
Erma’s life will be cherished by her children: Carol Ann (James) Greene of Yakima, WA, Dona Kay Hall of Mexico and Ralph (Betty) Holzwarth of Gettysburg; nine grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; three step grandchildren; four step great grandchildren; son-in-law: James Temenak of Poway, CA; and two sisters-in-law: Adeline Vanhove of Garretson and Jackie Vanhove of Madison.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Theodore; daughter, Mary Jean Temenak; son-in-law, Michael Hall; three sisters; and eight brothers.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be directed to the Potter County Library or the Avera Oahe Haven.

My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Erma. The loss of our dear loved ones can be very difficult and distressing to cope with. It has helped myself and others when we remember that they now safely rest in the loving memory of our Grand Creator, waiting for the fulfillment of His promised purpose. Also, may your own good and loving memories of Erma help to soothe your hearts. Sincerely ( Revelation 21 : 3-5; Acts 24 : 15; Psalms 37 : 11, 34 )
Irma was a soft spoken sweet lady and one of the neighborhood birthday coffee ladies. She had seen and done alot in her 100 years. Prayers to her family.
