Florence loved reading, doing crossword puzzles, visiting on the phone with friends, watching T.V. & sewing. She loved teaching and dedicated her life to Cheyenne River Headstart. This inspired her to pursue a degree in Early Childhood Education, which she received in 2003. After many years of service, she retired in 2012. Florence enjoyed visiting with her Simply Smiles friends and was very faithful to the LaPlant Baptist Church, which she attended regularly.

Grateful for sharing her life were her daughter, Norma Shaving of LaPlant; adopted son, Kevin Different Horse Sr. of Eagle Butte; many grandchildren; great grandchildren; one great-great grandson and her nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; seven children; her siblings; adopted son, Jody Tapio; and two great grandchildren: Jazmine Jade Ducheneaux and Tatum Allyn LeCompte.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Florence’s arrangements.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. My sincere sympathy to the family and friends of Florence. The loss of our dear loved ones can be very difficult and distressing to cope with. It has helped myself and others when we remember that they now safely rest in the loving memory of our Grand Creator, waiting for the fulfillment of His promised purpose. Also, may your own good and loving memories of Florence help to soothe your hearts. Sincerely ( Revelation 21 : 3-5; Acts 24 : 15; Psalms 37 : 11, 34 )

  2. Condolences to the Grandma Flos Family, she was always a loving woman ill never forget her cause every time i would see her she would always stop to see how i was doing…. and when i would see her i would yell "Hello Grandma Flo" and she would just smile and wave 🙂 Gone but never forgotten <3

  3. Wendell and Nancy Deer With Horns says:

Our deepest condolences and prayers for Florence. She will be missed but with us always in spirit. She is a lovely lady and Wendell remembers her great visits and conversations.

  4. I was Florence’s supervisor for many years at CRST HeadStart. She was always ready to learn new ideas and ways of working with the children. She started out as a strict disciplinarian and learned other ways to work with the children. A very smart lady and she had a beautiful smile. My prayers go out to her family. The Creator has another bright star in His skies.

  5. Florence aka Florene was my Mama Velma Walters-Lee friend since childhood. They grew up at LaPlant & enjoyed many good memories together. Florene was very kind just like Mom & they both had a sense of humor. I know they are visiting in paradise now, these 2 beautiful women who were loved by many! Rest in Paradise Florene!

  6. I worked with Florene many years at the CRST Headstart, and she became a dear friend. She blessed many, many children’s lives. RIP my Friend….till I see you again
