Leo “Bud” Weischedel, 90, of Agar, passed away Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Michael J. Fitzmaurice State Veteran’s Home in Hot Springs, SD.

Funeral services was held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 19, 2016 at the Agar Hall, with Pastor Jeff Adel presiding. Burial followed in the Onida Cemetery. A prayer service was held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, March 18, at the Agar Hall with visitation one hour prior.

Leo “Bud” D. Weischedel was born to Frank and Nellie (Suman) Weischedel on the family farm west of Agar on April 11, 1925. He attended school until the eighth grade when he had to stay home and work on the family farm.

Bud married Anna Mae (Olson) Weischedel on June 17, 1944, and he was drafted in the US Navy that same year. While in the Navy, he served one year in San Diego, CA and one year on the USS Incredible, a 75 ft ocean minesweeping boat in the South China Sea. Bud was honorably discharged in 1946.

After his discharge Bud returned to the family farm where he worked for his dad for two years. Then in 1948, they moved their home into Agar. He worked for Raymond Sutton and Stan Asmussen before going to work for Sully County as a blade operator, starting on his birthday, April 11, 1950. He worked for Sully County for 40 years.

Bud was extremely active in the Agar community. He joined the Agar Methodist Church in 1939 and was the president of the Agar School board when all four of his children graduated. He also served as president of the Agar town board, and Commander and seventy year member of the American Legion. He was a life member of the Onida Masonic Lodge which he joined in January of 1951, making him a 65 year member. He was also a member of the Royal Arch of Yankton, the Oahe Shrine Club, Pierre VFW and the Agar Fire Dept.

Bud and Anna Mae opened the Mobil gas station in Agar in 1957, which they operated until 1974.

Bud is survived by his wife of 72 years and the love of his life, Anna Mae; his children: Richard “Dick” (Jean) Weischedel, Sturgis, Sandra (Don) Hepper, Onida, and Jerry (Mona) Weischedel, Mobridge; seven grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike) Oates, Teresa (Scott) Jensen, Cindy (Brandon) Robertson, Stacy (Rachael) Hepper, Darcy (Brad) Higbee, Derek (Renee) Hepper, and Jeremy Weischedel; 16 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; and one sister, Irma Brandt, Rapid City.

Bud was preceded in death by his daughter, Cindy; his parents; four brothers and four sisters.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Bud’s arrangements.
