Wallace Arnold, 53, of Onaka, passed away Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Faulkton Area Medical Center of natural causes. Wally had spent the day fixing fence, and it had been an enjoyable day for him. He felt blessed to have lived on the family farm his entire life.

Wallace Donald Arnold was born August 13, 1962, in Faulkton, SD to Donald and Joyce (Glanzman) Arnold. He attended grade school in Onaka and graduated from Cresbard High School in 1980. Wally remained a good and loyal friend to those who knew him.

Wally was baptized and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Wecota. After high school graduation, Wally remained at home helping his dad on the farm. When his parents retired in 1985 and moved to Faulkton, Wally continued to operate the family farm. He married Jennifer Meier of Roscoe on March 11, 1989. Wally loved his friends and family. His needs were simple. He found fun in $1 boxes of goodies at auctions, conversation and cooking. He loved music, and a good rock concert was a treat. He liked to read and observe nature, both human and wild.

Wally is survived by his mother, Joyce Arnold of Faulkton; his siblings: Fran (Allen) Aden of Mesa, Arizona, and Gettysburg, Janene (John) Papendick of Aberdeen, and Danella (Brad) Paul of Faulkton. He was proud of his nieces and nephews and their spouses and children: Alisa, Hilary, Kate, Joe, Ben and Jamie.

He was preceded in death by his father, Donald (May 7, 1988) and his maternal grandparents, C.W. and Ella Glanzman, and paternal grandparents, Frank and Bertha Arnold.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Wallace’s arrangements.

Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. He was a great neighbor & friend ! I will miss he very very much !!

  2. Colby and I are so sorry to hear about Wally passing on. Unfortunately, Colby graduates high school on Sunday night and we will miss the services. Over the last 15 years of pheasant hunting in the Onaka area, and on Wally’s farm, we had gotten to be very good friends. We cooked nightly at Gutenkauf’s shop, and everyone was always so glad to see Wally, (including when he brought his home made deer the best ever, or his homemade horseradish)! More than hunting, my 18 year old son (now), loved either riding around or driving Wally around, watching us shoot and mostly miss, but he enjoyed Wally’s company more than he did the hunt. We will truly miss Wally. Love, Kelly and Colby

  3. Dear Joyce and Family, I was so sad to hear the news regarding Wally. I knew him as a kind and fun-loving young man who always covered the back of his friends. I know that you will miss him. Hopefully, I can stop by later in the summer to personally see you. All my best to everyone, Brent

  4. I remember spending a couple weeks every summer in South Dakota, some of it on the farm hanging out with my cousins Wally and Danella. Horse rides, chasing chickens in the barn, swimming in the water tanks- big fun for my city-slicker brothers and I! That beautiful smile and quick laugh of Wally’s are a condolence to me now, as I hope they are to Aunt Joyce, Fran, Janene, Danella and their families.

  5. Joyce and all of Wally’s family. I’m so very sorry for your lose..

  6. My condolences for Joyce and family. I’m sorry for the loss of a son, brother, uncle and friend to many. Although we were no longer together it is hard to think of my first love and not be heartbroken by his passing. We must all remember the good times, the fun, laughter and love. RIP Wally, you will be missed.

  7. Sending my deepest sympathies to family and friends of Wally. He was always so nice to be around and I have fond memories. May God wrap all of you in his loving arms and give you that peace that surpasses all human understanding. God Bless all of you.

  8. Wally was a good hearted person! I’m sorry for your loss! God Bless!

  9. We will all miss Wally popping in on us at the farm. What as awesome guy Wally was and I’m just so sad that I will never get to see him or talk to him again. 4th of July will not be the same without him. He watched when we did the memory balloon for Valerie and this year I will have one for him too. Sadly. How I wish I could make it for his funeral so I can hug the family. My thoughts and prayers to the whole family.

  10. Our hearts go out to you, Joyce, Fran, Janene, Danella and families. We are so sorry for your loss. We know Wally will be missed by family and also by the Onaka community. God bless Wally and may He be with all of you during this very hard time. With our heartfelt sympathy.

  11. Fran, Al, and Family – So sorry for your loss. Cherish the memories. Thoughts and prayers. Sincere Sympathy, Mike & Mary

  12. We are so sorry for your loss. May the God of all comfort, Jehovah, look after you during this most difficult time. In the book of Revelation 21:3,4 there is a beautiful promise he gives where he says that soon will come a time when death, mourning, and tears will be no more. May thoughts and scriptures like this be of comfort to you during this most difficult time.
