Leon John Weber of Faulkton, passed away peacefully at home on July 11, 2016 after a very full 102 years of life.

Funeral Mass were held at 10:30a.m., Thursday, July 14, 2016, at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Faulkton, SD with Fr. Christopher Hughes officiating. Burial followed in St. Boniface Catholic Cemetery, Seneca. A wake service was held at 7:00p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at the church, with visitation one hour prior.

Leon was born October 31, 1913 at Jamestown, North Dakota to Joseph and Emma (Artz) Weber. He was the sixth born of nine siblings. At the age of three, his family moved to a farm in Ellisville Township in Faulk County. He attended West Ellisville School through the sixth grade. He continued his education at the parochial school in Zell, SD. After completing his education, he helped his father on the family farm until 1936. He then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to begin work at John Morrell.

On July 5, 1937 he married Katherine “Kitty” Lubka in Sioux Falls. In 1939, they returned to the Seneca area and purchased a farm/ranch in northern Hyde County, where they raised cattle and crops. In December of 1946, Leon and Kitty adopted their son, Joseph Leon.

Leon served as Clerk of Ellisville Township, and was a member of the Union Township School Board for a number of years. In 1977, he and his wife retired and moved to Faulkton, South Dakota. During his retirement, Leon enjoyed watching his grandchildren in sporting activities and playing cards with many of his friends. He enjoyed returning to the family farm to help during busy times. Leon and Kitty celebrated 54 years of marriage before Kitty’s passing in September of 1993. Leon lived out the remaining years of his life in his home in Faulkton until God called him home on July 11. In the 102 years of his life, Leon saw more things in this world than any one person could possibly imagine.

He is survived by his son, Joseph (Bonnie); grandchildren: Todd Weber (Angie), Vicki Jorgensen (Doug), and Michelle Nielson (Adam); great-grandchildren: Joe Weber (Heather), Tim Weber, Amber Weber, Sean Jorgensen, Jamie Jorgensen, Greyson Nielson, and Palmer Nielson; and great great-grandchildren, Brooke and Lucas Weber.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Katherine “Kitty”; parents, Joseph and Emma; sibling: Joseph, Frank, Emily, Marie, Wendlin, Sylvester, Bernard, infant sister; and great-granddaughter, Tatum Presley Nielson.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with Leon’s arrangements.
