Roletta Pretty Weasel

Roletta Pretty Weasel, 62, of Eagle Butte passed away Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m. CDT, Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Wakpala Community Building, Wakpala, SD with Pastor Ben Farrar presiding. Burial followed in St. Bede’s Cemetery, Wakpala. A wake service was held at 7:00 p.m., MST, Sunday, July 24, 2016 at the Old Agency Community Building, Eagle Butte with a procession from the 4 mile junction at 5:00 p.m.

Roletta Rhonda Afraid of Lightning Pretty Weasel was born May 26, 1954 at home in Wakpala, SD to Roy Circle Bear and Mary Howard. She was raised by her grandparents, Martin and Agatha Holy Bull.

Roletta attended Smee School District Elementary thru High school. She received her GED at United Tribes Technical College and later graduated from the Police Science course. She was involved in Law Enforcement for approximately 22 years. Serving as a Dispatcher, Police Officer, Juvenile Administrator, Detective Division Secretary and Juvenile Probation Officer. She was attending Oglala Lakota College until her health would not let her continue her studies. She enjoyed cooking, baking and doing bead work. She was involved in her grand children's activities and enjoyed her time with them.

Roletta was united in marriage to William Pretty Weasel on October 26, 1987. They were very close to their granddaughter, Takori Kiss before her passing.

Roletta is survived by her mother Mary Good Eagle of Wakpala; husband, William Pretty Weasel of Eagle Butte; sisters: Grace Afraid of Lightning, Anita Afraid of Lightning, and Cheryl Circle Bear all of Rapid City, Linda Circle Bear Green of Hill City, Sandra Dubray of Allen, Brenda Boneclub of Wakpala, Serena Buffal of Bismarck, ND, and Vernell Buffalo of Denver, CO; brothers: Ron Circle Bear of Virginia, Marei Spaola of Lawrence, KS, Ben Boneclub of Wakpala, and Delaine Buffalo of LaPlant; her children: Flora Margaret Eagle Chasing of Wakpala, Leslie Terrill Iron Cloud of Wakpala, Lori Brave, Memoree Thomas and Michelle Thomas all of Rapid City, Cody Thomas of Flandreau, Kristen (Pretty Weasel) Nordvold of Eagle Butte, and Jayme (Pretty Weasel) Lopez of Rapid City; best friends: Anita Traversie, Carla Blue Coat and Andrea Hale; 27 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; auntie, Virginia Weasel Boy and family of AZ and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.

Roletta was preceded in death by her son, Frowin Eagle Chasing; daughter, Angeline Iron Cloud; grandparents, Martin and Agatha Holy Bull; father, Roy Circle Bear; sisters: Berneden Cadotte-Uses Many and Carolann Circle Bear; brother, Cecil Buffalo and aunties, Ruby Cadotte and Beverly Howard.
