Dwight Stubbs, 95, of Miller and formerly of Wessington, passed away Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in Miller.

Funeral service were held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 22, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church, Wessington with Rev. Janice Palmer officiating.  Burial followed at Rose Hill Cemetery, Wessington with military honors.  Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dwight Edward Stubbs was born January 22, 1921 to Edward and Nellie (Rombough) Stubbs on the farm near Wessington in Rose Hill Township.  Through the eighth grade, he attended school in Rose Hill and Bates Township schools and graduated from Wessington High School in 1939.

Dwight farmed with his dad until 1945 when he married Anna Mae Johnson at the Ogee Johnson, Sr. home. He also served in the United States Army. Dwight and Anna Mae farmed in Rose Hill Township until 1955 when they moved to the Denver area. Dwight worked at Sundstrand Aviation and Coors Porcelain. After Anna Mae passed away in 1970, he moved back to Rose Hill where he continued farming.

Dwight attended the Presbyterian Church in Wessington and was a member of the Wessington American Legion.  For years, Dwight and Anna Mae enjoyed camping with friends, creating leather crafts, and traveling to rodeos across the country.  Dwight loved working with horses and enjoyed raising quarter horses after returning to South Dakota.

In his retirement year, Dwight enjoyed big game hunting and fishing with Ogee Johnson. He appreciated his travels with Kenny and Chris Gebhart to Florida, Nashville, and the Kentucky Derby.  After retiring, he lived in Wessington before moving to Golden Prairie Manor in Winner, SD in 2007. In 2011 Dwight moved to the Courtyard Villa Assisted Living in Miller and onto the Good Samaritan Society in 2015.

Survivors include his nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dwight is preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae; his parents; and sisters, Juanita Stubbs, Audra Frick, Eleanor Lombard, Margaret McGillvrey, and Fauneil Healy; and nephew, Gene Healy.

Reck Funeral Home of Miller has been entrusted with Dwight’s arrangements.
