(Buffalo Woman)
Cherie Lorraine Agneaux entered the spirit world on July 2, 2009 at Bear Creek, South Dakota and will be dearly missed by her family.
We, the family have entrusted our precious one, to the hands of Luce Funeral Chapel, with a wake service at 7:00 p.m., MDT at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Eagle Butte. The funeral was held at 2:00 p.m, MDT, Saturday, July 11, 2009 at the church. Burial by her special cousin, Justin (Cookie) Cook, and her Grand-parents, Nathan and Caroline (Mae) Bagola was at the St. James Episcopal Cemetery, Bear Creek, SD. She is joining her father-in-law, Andrew Mound and her uncle, E. Leslie Cook, who raised her as one of his own.
On May 6, 1982 Cherie Lorraine Agneaux was born to Nadine (Bagola) Fisherman and Gilbert Agneaux at Eagle Butte Indian Health Service and lived her childhood years in Bear Creek. In 1999, she gave birth to Natelie Mara Rose and in 2000, another precious, Dylan Archie. She continued her education while at Cheyenne Eagle Butte High School where she graduated in May of 2000. She then entered the military in 2001 for a brief time and was honorably discharged and returned home to her children. Cherie was married to Gary “Beaver” Mound for a few years before getting their divorce and remaining the best of friends.
Cherie was currently employed with the Tribal Field Health program, going out to the communities to give healthcare to people in Cherry Creek and Red Scaffold. She was also attending Oglala Lakota College, taking all her basic classes and planning to finish at United Sioux Tribes in nursing. Cherie completed her Certification as a Nurse’s Aide. She enjoyed working with people and gained many friends in this field.
Cherie had a great love for her Lakota people. She was generous, always willing to help, and always giving of herself for others’ needs. She liked joking around and teasing with a very kind heart.
Cherie is greatly missed by her daughter, Natalie Mara Rose Mound and son, Dylan Archie Mound; mothers: Nadine Fisherman of Bear Creek and Carla Blue Coat of Eagle Butte; father, Gilbert Agneaux of Thunder Butte; her cherished sisters: Arlene (Mikey) Ganje of Eagle Butte, Marilyn Agneaux of Pierre, Denae (Devon) Davis of Bear Creek; one brother: KC Agneaux; grandmothers: Grace Larrabee of Eagle Butte, Esterlyn Low Dog of Dupree, Hilda Marshall of Thunder Butte and Eva Jost of California; great-grandmother, Doris Ward of Cherry Creek; grandfathers: Melvin Bagola and Grover Scott both of Eagle Butte; aunties: Darlene (Terry) Red Bear of Bear Creek and Deloris Bagola of Eagle Butte; uncles: Dale (Arliss) Bagola and James and Leonard Bagola all of Bear Creek; five special nieces: Storme Agneaux, Megan Bagola, Ashley and Breezie Iron Moccasin and Eryn Louis; nephews: Xavior Louis, Ashten, Anthony, Aryan, and Nathaniel Iron Moccasin and friend, Gary Mound.
