Cecelia Circle Eagle, 90, of Eagle Butte entered the spirit world Wednesday, October 26, 2016 at I.H.S. Hospital in Eagle Butte.

Funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., MDT, Saturday, November 5, 2016 at the Old Agency Building, Eagle Butte, with Rev. Simon Looking Elk presiding. Burial followed in the UCC Cemetery, Cherry Creek. A wake service was held at 7:00 p.m., MDT, Friday, November 4, 2016 the hall.

Cecelia was born in rural Lantry, SD, on June 22, 1926 to Wallace and Louise (Roach) Cook. She grew up in Bear Creek, and attended grade school at Pierre Indian Learning Center. Later she attended Old Cheyenne Agency School where she graduated. She was involved in band, Glee Club, cheerleading, basketball, student council, was the annual editor, and was Class President. After graduation, she worked at Faith Café and Grocery Store.

She married Bevin Circle Eagle Sr. and from this union eight children were born. Cecelia lived most of her life in the Red Scaffold surrounding area. She worked as a cook at the Red Scaffold Day School, and was a homemaker. In 1982, Cecelia became dorm matron at the Cheyenne Eagle Butte School and retired May of 1992. She moved back to the Ranch in the country west of Red Scaffold and then resided in Eagle Butte for the remainder of her life.

Cecelia was very active in the UCC Church, and the ladies auxiliary for the Veterans. She enjoyed the ranch life; gardening, canning food, and raising animals. She enjoyed crocheting, sewing star quilts, embroidery work, as well as cooking and baking. She was known for her story-telling, singing her favorite Lakota hymns, excellent wakablaing skills, and skinning wild game. Cecelia was Honoree of the Native American Indian Women’s Association. She was a Preserver of the Lakota Culture & Language.

Everybody will remember her as being a beautiful caring, loving person. She had compassion for people and animals. In her later years, she enjoyed being around her great-grandchildren.

Cecelia is survived by her children: Marilyn Circle Eagle and Miss Belle, Peggy Knife, Beverly (Delmar) Clown, Helene (Adrian) Martinez, Bevin Jr. (Inez) Circle Eagle, Willie Circle Eagle, and Joy (Steven) Bruguier; adopted sons: Darian Newbrough, Moses High Elk, and Gary Marshall; adopted daughters: Dixie LeCompte and Alma Dupris; grandchildren: Mary Magdeline Knife, Dardi, Jill Daye Kessler, Carla Lawrence, Delmar Jr (Jade), Brandon, Rolynn, Desiree, Conroy, Felicia, Ali’ah, Carstin, Fain, Katee Cecile, RJ, Kenzie, Kellyn , Krystan , Krystal (Kevin Jr); great grandtotts: Matthew, Bryanna, Lauryn, Tyree, Peyton, Braxton, Kayliah, Leighton, Saigen, Son, Robert, Joseph, Hayzen, Nancy, Chloe, Kendall, Zoey, Claire, Greta, Noah, Danny, and Kaven.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bevin Sr.; son Bobbie Jo; grandsons: Randon, and Roland Jr.; great grandson, Jerimiah; her parents Wallace & Louis; brothers: Gideon, Clinton, and Milton Sr.; sister Mary Jane; and extended relatives: her Uncle Wilson & Aunt Margret; and many other relatives who were there to welcome her home.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Cecelia's arrangements.
