Mardell “Marde” M. Noisy Hawk, 38, of Thunder Butte, SD, passed away Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Good Samaritan Society, Canistota, SD.

Funeral services were held 10:00 a.m., MST, Monday, November 14, 2016 at St. John’s Episcopal Church, Eagle Butte, with Mother Margaret Watson presiding. Burial followed in St. Peter’s Episcopal Cemetery, Thunder Butte. An all-night wake was held at 7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. John’s, with a procession from the 4-mile at 5:00 p.m.

Mardell Matthew Noisy Hawk was born March 17, 1977 to Selby and Irma (Takes the Gun) Noisy Hawk in Eagle Butte, SD. He was raised in Thunder Butte, SD most of his life until 1990; when he moved to Dupree, SD with his maternal grandmother, Maxine High Elk-Takes The Gun.

Marde attended all of his schooling at Cheyenne Eagle Butte and lived in the dormitories during the school year until his graduation in 1997.

Marde was named after his grandfathers, Madrick Mardell High Elk and Theodore Matthew High Elk, when he was born. He was always Grandma and Lala’s boy. He was affectionately called “Green Eyed Monster” by his Auntie Jean Take The Gun, and “Marde Moose” by his cousins and “Super Fly” on the ball court.

Growing up in Thunder Butte, SD, you could always find him shooting hoops from when the sun came up until the sun went down. On his days off from playing basketball you could find him fishing off the banks of the Moreau River with his dog. He also enjoyed riding horses, listening to music and spending time with family and friends.

Marde is survived by his parents: Selby and Irma Takes The Gun-Noisy Hawk; siblings: Joy Howard, Celby Noisy Hawk Jr., and Tara Noisy Hawk; nephews: Morgan Valandra, Wesley Noisy Hawk, Gene Noisy Hawk, Reese Noisy Hawk and Marty Augustine; nieces: Shai Red Bear, Talia Noisy Hawk, Tyra Noisy Hawk, and Selby “Memphis” Noisy Hawk; special granddaughter: Kaden Peyton Valandra; seven grandchildren: Brooke, Aubrey, Kaden, Hensley, Arian, Justyn, an Serenity Lynn; and special aunt and uncle, Diane and Donovan Pretty Weasel.

He was preceded in death by his oldest brother, John Lester Howard, and little brother, Terry Noisy Hawk.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Marde’s arrangements.
