George Wieseler, 89, of Polo, passed away peacefully, Thursday, February 9, 2017 at Faulkton Senior Living.

Mass of Christian Burial was held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at St. Liborius Catholic Church, Polo with Father Christopher Hughes presiding. Burial will be at a later date in the Black Hills National Cemetery, Sturgis. A rosary and prayer service was held at  7:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 14, 2017 all at the church. 

George John Wieseler was born on August 12, 1927, to John and Rose (Pfister) Wieseler in Faulkton, South Dakota. He attended St. Liborius School in Polo. In 1952, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and was stationed at the Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. After his first station, he was transferred to the Lowry Air Force Base in Denver, Colorado. 

George married Delores Jenner from St. Lawrence at the Cathedral Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Denver, Colorado, on August 4th, 1952. Early in their marriage, he was stationed at Castle Air Force Base in Merced, California. They resided in Merced together where their first son was born. In 1954, they returned to South Dakota where they then purchased their own farm in 1956, outside of Polo and expanded their family by five. On the farm, George and his brother, Jim, carried on the family business of farming and ranching. 

In his free time, George enjoyed hunting, fishing, and playing cards at the local coffee spot with old friends. He was instrumental in starting the American Legion in Polo. Throughout his life, he has also served as Hand County Commissioner, on the Farmers Oil Board, the St. Liborius school board, the St. Liborius Church board, a member of the Knights of Columbus council, the Harrison Township board, and spent many years as a member of the National Farmers Organization. 

George’s life will be cherished by his wife, Delores; his children: Wayne Wieseler, Sebastopol, CA, Bruce (Brenda) Wieseler, Kansas City, MO, Dan (Jacquelyn) Wieseler, Lee Summit, MO, Jane Wieseler, Sioux Falls, Rod (Cindy) Wieseler, Miller, and Pam Schwebach (Rock), Dell Rapids; 16 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brothers: Jim (Marietta) Wieseler, Polo and John (Helen) Wieseler, Hazen, ND; sister, Elinor (Jim) Clingan, Westminster, MD; and special family friend, Gerry Wernsmann. 

He is preceded in death by his parents John and Rose; one sister, Marcella; and one brother, Leonard.

Luce Funeral Home of Faulkton has been entrusted with George’s arrangements.

  1. Aunt Delores, sorry for your loss. I’ll always remember uncle George as the jolly, outgoing, friendly uncle I looked forward to being around. I’d be proud to live next door to my favorite uncle when I too, make the journey to Heaven.

  17. We were so sorry to hear of Uncle George’s passing. I remember his quiet but quick wit that was so evident when we were visiting you all. I also remember the time that he and Aunt Delores were willing to leave me staying and cooking for some of the kiddos for several days while you all went somewhere. I also remember how willing he was to bring down your camper when all of us were home for dad’s passing so that we could all stay together. Will remember all of your family in prayers as you mourn his passing.
