Lowell was born November 11, 1931, at Mitchell, South Dakota to Eaner and Esther (Farrington) Krog of Gann Valley, South Dakota. Lowell joined the U.S. Navy and was honorably discharged in March, 1951. After his discharge, Lowell worked for various ranchers in the Gann Valley, Miller, and Highmore areas for approximately 40 years. Lowell married Nilas McKinney on June 1, 1956 in Miller. To this union, they were blessed with five children: Jack, Lexa, Loretta, Shayne, and Rob.

Anyone that knew Lowell knew he loved to visit; if he didn’t know you when you came in, he darn sure knew you when you left. He had a heart of gold and loved spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

After retirement, Lowell enjoyed spending time at the Ranch Café with his “coffee buddies” catching up, teasing each other – all in good fun, and o’ the stories they would tell.

Lowell is survived by his wife, Nilas of 61 years; children: Jack of Pierre, Lexa (Tom) Richardson of Ft. Pierre, Loretta (Ron) McQuistion of Ft. Pierre, Shayne (Shellie) of Ft. Pierre, and Rob of Cavour; grandchildren: Jason, Cody, Andy, John, and Erik Krog; Travis Richardson; Casey Krog; Randi Norman; Jamie Haefner; Loni McQuistion; Alissa and Adam Hillmer, and Kimberly Davenport; 23 great grandchildren; and sisters: Jean Schwiesow of Madison, Margaret Nielson and Verna Thum of Wessington Springs.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Eaner and Esther; brothers: Dick, Lyle, Dale, LeRoy, and Russell; sisters: Doris, Phyllis, and Velma; and parents-in-law, Floyd and Una McKinney.
